Preface: hospital of emotions: fifth floor – sadness department

Anger is an emotion that I try very hard to control. Mostly because I’m Korean and we have nasty K-rage. If you’ve seen any K-dramas, you’d understand. Also, being angry doesn’t help and it takes a lot of energy that I don’t have much to begin with.

Room 64: I lost my uncle a few years ago, it was too soon, it was unfair. I was angry about it, and while everything in me wanted to yell, scream, and let it out. I kept it all together. I needed to be strong for those around me who also lost him, I kept all those emotions and dealt with them later.

As you sit in the chair, recognize how you’ve dealt, or may deal, with loss. On one side, a cry of anger spilled into the world, chaotic, painful memories demanding to be heard. On the other, a facade of strength atop a pile of memories, held together just enough to let them know you’re okay.

All the items in the room are derived from memories I had with my uncle, from music, to books, to just sitting together over coffee.

Room 63: Anger, like many emotions, comes in waves.

We invite you to a space that throws you into a stormy cacophony of sight and sound. Overwhelming you, taking over your senses.

The room storms and rages on while beckoning you to take a moment and find your zen. Asking you to look beyond the thunderous crashing and see the calm after the storm.
