Preface: hospital of emotions: fourth floor – hope department

Love is a tough one for me. It’s not something that comes natural to me nor was it outwardly shown as a child.

The Anatomy of a Bloom – Santa Gross

Room 66: The Anatomy of a Bloom is designed as a 360 – degree narrative cycle.

The viewer is not just looking at art; you are stepping inside a heartbeat.

The walls surrounding function as a continuous landscape where the murals bleed into one another, mimicking the fluid and often unpredictable transition between emotional states of love.

The journey begins with The Seed, representing the fragile moment of intention and quiet potential of love.

It progresses into Growth, where logic and intuition align during the initial emotional “high, between heart and brain leading to the Blossom, the radiant peak of the relationship that requires constant devotion to survive.

The narrative then enters a clinical phase called Agony, where a crisis (represented by thorns and medical equipment) forces a choice between healing the bond or letting go.

Finally, the cycle concludes with Resilience, a stage of rebirth where the heart regains its voice for yourself or others, proving that love is a permanent revolution of planting, protecting, and starting anew.

In a place built for the healing of the body, this room serves the healing of the spirit. ‘The Anatomy of a Bloom’is a reminder that love, like a garden, is a cycle of labor and light. It is not the absence of thorns that defines a beautiful life, but the courage to keep planting in spite of them.

This journey belongs to everyone who has ever bloomed, everyone who has ever

Where Light Begins – Sandra Monty

Room 70: Where Light Begins is an installation that transforms a hospital birth room into an emotional environment where love, fear, and memory coexist. Soft, dark tactile figures gather around the bed like silent witnesses, embodying the emotional states present in the room-vulnerability, protection, exhaustion, and care. Their imperfect, almost childlike forms contrast with the sterile hospital setting, allowing tenderness and humanity to emerge within a clinical space.

At the center, a newborn appears as the only source of color, rendered in a radiant rainbow palette. The child becomes a symbol of light and continuity, marking the moment when fear gives way to life. Inspired by the artist’s memory of losing her grandmother in a hospital, the work reflects on how the same place once associated with loss later became the place where her children were born.

Through color, form, and contrast, the installation explores birth as the ultimate act of love: the moment a mother gives her light, her color, and her courage to welcome new life.
