stranger things

When I watched the first episode of Stranger Things, I knew almost immediately that I was going to be hooked. It felt like it was one of the shows that put Netflix on the map.

I’ve always had a soft spot for retro music, fashion, and vibes. Seeing Winona Ryder on screen again sealed the deal for me. She’s an icon and I think initially, people were really interested in seeing her perform after all these years.

The show spanned almost a decade and in that time I got to watch these child actors grow up. Seeing them turn into young adults was really special and it felt almost personal. It’s hard to believe that El AKA Eleven, Millie Bobby Brown is now 21 years old and married to Jon Bon Jovi’s son and they adopted a child. I bet Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke are proud of their daughter, Maya.

The show wasn’t just about monsters or alternate dimensions. It was about friendship and loyalty, about grief and fear, about teenage angst and first relationships, about being a dreamer in a world that is unforgiving, resilience, and sacrifices made. It explored trauma and what it took to survive it together.

Watching the final episode hit harder than I expected. This wasn’t how I imagined the show to end. But then again, I don’t think I really wanted the show to ever stop… but all good things must come to an end.

I believe…

The Missus and I really liked the first season and how well it captured the feel of the 80s and 80s (horror) movies. They did a fantastic job.

Sadly, we didn’t enjoy subsequent seasons as much and dropped out after season 3.

But we’ll always have season 1…

      first season was THE best!

It really was. It was one of those so good first seasons that I actively worried about subsequent seasons matching it.

        The curse of the sequel.

I saw a good Stranger Things-esque movie on NF…. β€œSuper 8”… about some teenage kids in a rust belt town in the 1970s. The one kid is a wannabe filmmaker and he enlists his friends to appear in his latest project. There’s a train incident and from then on, things get interesting. Worth a watch if you haven’t seen it 😎

Finn Wolfhard reminds me of that kid in ET named Elliott? And Winona is awesome. I liked her best in Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice. And MBB? She is awesome as Eleven and her telekinetic powers. πŸ˜€

I’ve been hearing mixed things about the finale. I’m only familiar with the first season though, so I have a ways to go before I can make any sort of determination myself. I’m considering resubscribing to Netflix soon for it though.

I still have never watched it. I am thinking if I ever start feeling like streaming again, I will get Netflix- they have a couple of series I would like to look into.

  14. Violet Lentz Avatar

I watch historical fiction so probably nothing you’d be interested in but I want to watch the Winter King for sure.
