paid it forward

Have you ever ‘paid it forward’?

Prompt snagged from: NY Times

I do it in varying degrees almost every day, especially at work.

  • helping my patients and making sure that they are getting the best quality care
  • treating my assistants with lunch, coffee, or small gifts
  • donating to charities
  • dropping off clothes and small appliances to local organizations quarterly
  • giving blankets and food to the unhoused
  • one time, I was at Starbs, ready to pay for my Americano when the barista said, “You’re all set—the person ahead of you paid for it.” I was honestly shooketh. No one has ever done that for me before. I’d heard stories about it, sure, but those sort of things hardly ever happen to me.

Sometimes, being kind and not acting like a bag of dicks is enough for people. Just sayin’.

I used to pay the bridge toll for the car behind me, years and years ago. And then speed away so they couldn’t see who did it.

But tolls are too expensive now.

Duuuude tolls are hella expensive now… that was very generous of you to do

This was A LONG time ago so the toll could be counted on … we’ll just say less than five fingers. It was nice, sure, but not exactly generous.

    You do a lot Rojie.

Having someone pay for you, I can’t imagine the feeling… good to be seen.

    Kind gestures would bring tears…

Like, especially for us women…I think we have like walled ourselves…and becoming like a manly man…always on…..

I also catch myself teary eyed even if my family does something for me…🥺 these days…and if that’s the stranger… I’d say a prayer for the person…too

It’s my patients who bring me food, gifts, and homemade cards. I live for that because it’s something that money can’t buy
