Would you rather have an older brother, younger brother, older sister, younger sister, or identical twin?

Prompt snagged from: TCMC

I’d love to have an older brother or sister. I’ve never liked being the oldest—it comes with a massive amount of responsibility that doesn’t let me breathe. In Korean families especially, being the eldest isn’t just about being born first—it’s about setting the standard, carrying the expectations, and often sacrificing your own needs so others can thrive. There’s pressure to always keep it together, to lead, to protect, and somehow still be grateful for it all.

Sometimes I wonder who I’d be if I had an older sibling who could absorb some of that weight, someone who’d already walked a few steps ahead and could show me the way, or at least say, “I’ve got you.”

As for having an identical twin? That’s a hard no for me. I know myself too well. I’d be comparing every little thing—how she looked, how she talked, how people responded to her—and constantly wondering if I was measuring up. It’d be hard to feel like my identity was fully my own. I’d always feel like I was living in a mirror I couldn’t step out of.

Even though we’re all sisters, I haven’t longed for a brother. When my brothers-in-law came to our family, I felt joyful. It adds protection, from my standpoint. Identical twin is a no-no for me, too.

Glad I don’t have siblings because I get super pampered. Plus I am the youngest cousin too as both my parents are the youngest amongst their siblings respectively.

Ooh I would love to be pampered

Another oldest daughter here! Your post hits home hard! The amount of time when I was a child being told to behave because I was being a bad example for my younger siblings T_T And when I got a bit older, doing my parents’ dirty work to discipline my siblings as well LOL.

Yasss I had to shuttle my brother all over town when I got my drivers license as well as babysit him habitually.

Omg don’t tell me because you have to prove yourself so much as a child, you end up being a people pleaser as an adult as well T_T

that’s where my problem lies now

You have very good leadership skills, that is one trait of being the oldest and also good verbal skills which is another. So you are awesome. Fabulous picture of you.

      Thank you, Jesse!

I understand you, I’m the eldest among the girls but also in between the boys. Being the eldest girl and from a matrilineal society comes with too many expectations.

It does!! It makes me feel tied down at times when I just wanna be free and flee

I was very young when my Dad started talking about responsibilities since I was the eldest daughter…no wonder I rebelled 😁

i dislike people telling me what to do lol, specially when it interferes with my “me time”

When I was younger, the more I hear no, the more I rebelled 😅…

I pissed my bro off all the time because I followed everything he did, he’s four years older, guitar, skateboard, J.R.R. Tolkien, etc. did I ever listen to him, he showed me it all though lol, so then I competed some, we’re quite different. He was under a lot of pressure though, mom drunk for a stint there and the oldman always away on business lol, 12 years old hanging with the beer and hash crew downtown lol

    1. justrojie Avatar

lol maybe things would have been different if you were the older one

Another oldest daughter here! Your post is so spot on, when I compare my timeline to that of my siblings I feel we had two different parents some in my favour and some not so much because I was the guinea pig for how things were done and paved way so they won’t have much trouble going through the same I did.

    1. justrojie Avatar

Yeah I feel like I broke my parents in while they were breaking me 😆
