It’s not like you to say sorry
I was waitin’ on a different story
This time I’m mistaken
For handing you a heart worth breakin’
And I’ve been wrong, I’ve been down
Been to the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream, “Are we havin’ fun yet?”

Do you trust your government?

Prompt snagged from: NY Times

LOL.

Firstly, I have trust issues that stem back from childhood. We won’t get into that in this post.

I’ve read and seen what has happened to the Native Americans? Centuries of broken treaties, land theft, and cultural erasure…

Honestly, I’m not even sure what the Constitution stands for anymore. The way laws are interpreted, reinterpreted, or outright ignored… it’s dizzying. It feels like everything is shifting under our feet, day by day. Policies change with the wind, basic rights are up for debate.

Power has a way of corrupting, and self-interest tends to outweigh the greater good. I believe in accountability, transparency, and justice… but those things feel like ideals more than realities most days.

I don’t blindly trust. I stay informed, I ask questions, and I keep my eyes open. Because trust isn’t something you give freely-it’s something that has to be earned, over time, through actions.

Ya, you mention the aboriginal cases, here we have lost girls a bit so what I do every now and then is check the missing persons at the RCMP website and others, and keep an eye out, well, for all those people on there. The King and Queen are in Ottawa today Ro. and speeches will be in French and English BUT, high members of the aboriginal community are present in honorable standing, but I thought yesterday, what a jab!! Why not add a teleprompter in Inuk or Cree for this??

Yeah, I’m sure the first people feel a certain way about the British monarchy

That’s not a real question is it? I don’t think government and trust go together.

The one thing that has given me some trust throughout my life is that democracy is inherently self-correcting: if the government is full of scoundrels and scammers and worse, we can vote the bums out. I know the current administration is doing everything it can to make Trump and his stooges un-vote-outable, so I’m feeling particularly dismal about things right now. But other countries have brought themselves back from the authoritarian brink before; I believe we can do it here, too.

Too bad these politicians can’t be termed. I hope you’re right and it turns its course. The sooner the better!

Agreed! And–we are the resistance we’ve been waiting for. There are effective ways to dissent and to move the needle back.

Exactly trust has to be earned, dam Skippy. This administration has done a lot of things that don’t add up. He doesn’t believe in the constitution. He flies immigrants out of the country without due process. He puts tariffs on countries, which is going to make everything more expensive. Yes, he says they are ripping us off
Hopefully his tariffs work. He has told Walmart to eat the tariffs hopefully they have, not to cause a surge of prices on things the American people love. Again, hopefully the tariffs work.

I’m doubtful the big corporations wanna eat the costs but we’ll see. I also doubt what’s his face even knows the constitution

    Yes you are right.

Whereas I have never ‘trusted’ the government, I have never been as adamantly against them as I am now. I absolutely cannot believe there are people that are actually pleased! It certainly has shown us who our fellow countrymen really are though hasn’t it?

as long as it doesn’t affect them, they don’t care. people are gonna FAFO soon enough…
