Do you like ordering food delivery? (e.g. Skip, Door Dash, Uber Eats)
Prompt snagged from: TCMC
I don’t do it because I like to. I do it out of necessity.
I’ll order something maybe once every other month, max. It’s not some indulgent habit or a craving-driven decision. It’s more like—well, I can’t just pop out of the building whenever I feel like it.
Most of the time, I’m ordering Philz. A strong coffee for my anemic self and a flaky croissant for one of my assistants. She’s sensitive to caffeine—so no coffee for her—but she lights up at a good pastry. It’s a small gesture, but I like finding ways to show appreciation. She works hard, and honestly? She puts up with a lot. I have high expectations, and she still shows up for me every day with grace.
When it comes to tipping, I generally give—usually 20 to 30%, depending on the situation. I get that delivery isn’t just about convenience; it’s someone’s job, someone navigating traffic, bad parking, and often chaotic restaurant wait times. If I’m ordering from Urth, for example, I tip higher. Their pickup zone is a nightmare, and delays are inevitable. I don’t want the driver suffering for a situation out of their control.
Yes, I know—it adds up. Delivery fees, service charges, tip… it’s not cheap. But sometimes, you pay for ease. For energy conservation. For being able to stay in your flow while still fueling up. And sometimes, it’s just about the little rituals—coffee that wakes me up without tweaking me out, a croissant that brightens someone’s day, all so that we can maintain our sustenance.
