to carpe diem… or not

LINK: to carpe diem… or not

Currently listening to: set a drift on memory bliss – PM Dawn

I can remember when
I caught up with a past-time intimate friend
She said, “Bet you’re probably gonna say I look lovely
But you probably don’t think nothin’ of me”
She was right, though, I can’t lie
She’s just one of those corners in my mind
So I just put her right back with the rest
That’s the way it goes, I guess

What do you reach for first when you need to be comforted?

Prompt created by yours truly.
Feel free to use any prompts for July that I post and/or tag me.
I’d love to read your responses.

Hmm… I actually don’t reach for anything or anyone when I need to be comforted. More often than not, I take a nap and then I seem to recalibrate pretty well. Except during this damn heat wave. I feel like a colicky baby and rendered useless during this time of the year. It also doesn’t help that it’s that time of the month too.

Can I just bitch about the electric company for a quick minute?

Southern California Edison (electric company) has this thing called the TOU (summer time-of-use) rates that go from June 1 through September 30th.

  • on-peak (1600-2100): power is the most expensive and rates can go up to 59 cents per kWh depending on the specific rate plan that you have.
  • off-peak (0000-1600, 2100-0000): rates are lower about 26 cents per kWh.
  • weekends: rates can vary, but they are often at mid-peak rate of 40 cents per kWh between 1600 and 2100.
It’s nearly midnight and it’s 85 degrees inside.

Earlier, I signed up to enroll in the SCE summer discount plan where I could save a whopping $160. Unfortunately, this shuts off the air conditioning for up to six hours and there is no override button. And every year, I develop amnesia and forget how hot it gets in Southern California and I sign up for this crappy plan… and then I get salty AF about it.

Rates of electricity here inflates, too. My sister complained, and I said, “I’ll just negotiate whom I can divide the bill” that reacted laugh by sisters. 🤭

Sorry to hear about the heat there. More water!

That sucks they shut off the ac for six hours. Do you have fans, get some ice and place the ice in front of the fan and that should cool down the house, just an idea.

DTE (Detroit Edison) there’s something similar to that as well. I don’t know they necessarily cut off power to your AC, per se, but you will notice that it’s getting a little bit warmer in the house because of their budget plan.

It’s frustrating, but I’d much rather deal with that for a couple hours than losing electricity altogether because there’s too much demand

    1. justrojie Avatar

and i’ve noticed an increase and i wonder if it’s because of these data centers…

Oh geez about the electric. For us its always too warm in the Fall/Winter if its 40° or higher I don’t need the heat, if it’s under 40° and below zero than yeah I am all for it. But the complex shuts off the central AC in late Sept and its a balmy 80-85°. As for comfort, my wife is good at offerring that.

    Monopolies are bad, mm-kay?

When I need comfort, I reach for a favorite book or series. Or I find an activity that is meditative or allows my mind to wander without impacting the result of that activity.

Yesterday, it was mowing the lawn.

    With a push mower.

Knowing how the story ends or choosing to do something that isn’t for anyone else but me helps give me a sense of control in my life.

    And that’s comforting.

that’s true… watching a show that i’ve seen before can be comforting
