I have a confession. When I was in second grade, I really struggled with Roman numerals. It seemed so foreign to me, letters for numbers? What? My feeble brain could not grasp why smaller letters placed after a larger number was meant to add the values and why smaller letters placed before a larger letter meant to subtract the smaller value from the larger value. And how repeating the same letters in a row could add their values, like XX = 20 and XXX = 30. Little did I know, that it would come in handy in chemistry, anatomy (cranial nerves), and this blog.
It’s been a minute since I’ve been to Fogo De Chão. I remember the first time I tried it, I was in Chicago and in love with the pão de queijo. Since then, I’ve been obsessed with it and have made it at home a few times.
My colleagues and I went not just for the food, but also to learn a bit about new drugs that are now out in the market for Alzheimer’s. As people live longer, the likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s or some form of dementia increases. Age isn’t the only factor, there are others such as genetics, cardiovascular health, hypertension, diabetes, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, hearing loss, sleep issues, social isolation, and more can influence the risk for dementia.

Jumbo shrimp cocktail appetizer and pão de queijo. These soft cheesy rolls are so good and they’re gluten-free.

From the salad bar – cheese, avocado, chicken salad, sweet potato and apple salad, hummus, mushroom, salad, pickled onions, and roasted red pepper.

Polenta, also very yummy.

Queijo coalho (fried cheese) drizzled with malagueta pepper-infused honey. Honestly, it tasted like a big cheese curd with hot honey and I wasn’t complaining.

Bring on the Fraldinha? I think? I had some filet mignon somewhere in the mix but they weren’t bringing out as often as the other cuts.
The had lamb, which my coworkers said tasted really good but as soon as the gaucho came by me with a slab of meat, I could already smell the gamey-ness so it was a hard no from me.

MOAR salty meats.

Cheesecake brûlée – NY style cheesecake torched with caramelized sugar, served over a rich berry sauce
Key lime pie – tart Florida key lime pie with graham cracker crust and whipped cream
Chocolate brigadeiro – truffled chocolate in chocolate cookie crust topped with chocolate ganache and sprinkles
I had a bite of each and called it a night.
Rest assured, I slept pretty good that night even though I was stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey.
