tangible junk

What’s a hobby you’re just learning?

Prompt created by yours truly.

I’d love to read your responses

I started dabbling in junk journaling. I use recycled, up-cycled, repurposed, or random items that I’ve come across during my day. It literally could be anything like junk mail, paper bags, paper scraps, wrappers, and what not and I turn it into a keepsake journal… sorta like scrapbooking.

There is no wrong way to junk journal.

Planning with Bumble was someone that I recently followed and got inspo from.

BTW this took me over a month to make because work got in the way of my fun and creative headspace.

I used a McDonald’s paper bag for the base of the page. Then I cut out the McDonald’s logo from the other side of the bag and made it into a pocket, gluing the sides and bottom so that I can put my “lotto ticket fries” inside.. I added random red colored stickers that I had to make it interesting.

It’s not much to look at but at least i was fun.

The McDonald’s-bag pocket holding your ‘lotto ticket fries’ is such a clever touch — I love that junk journaling turns the stuff we’d normally toss into a keepsake. We come home from trips with pockets full of receipts, ticket stubs and random wrappers, and this is exactly the kind of home they deserve. And ‘there is no wrong way to junk journal’ is a freeing thing to hear as a beginner. Worth every bit of the month it took.

Hobbies are important and help preserve our sanity in the face of the nonsense of the day job. And the more creative, the more satisfying and, I believe, beneficial.

Creativity coaxes out the parts of our brain that, as a coping mechanism, goes dormant due to work and other drudgery.

So start dumpster diving and digging through trash! If anyone questions it, tell them your mental health depends on it!

      LOL thanks, Ian!
