I met up with Owen to have omakase + more sushi. We invited Brenda but she was busy packing and getting ready to go on a trip. There are only a handful of people I like to eat sushi with and Owen is one of them. He is well-versed in sushi, has no food allergies, nor is he particular about what type of sushi he is given as long as it doesn’t make him sick.
He was happily telling me about his new job and was in a good mood. It’s rare that I find him in a foul mood but it is nice to see him in better spirits after not working for nearly a year.

Ginger and pickled cucumbers of sorts. I ordered hot green tea because that’s just how I do. I rarely have cold drinks.

Fish broth soup. It was super flavorful, I could have had another cup of this but I didn’t want to get full because we ordered omakase.

Kumamoto oyster with ponzu sauce
Seared blue fin
Jelly fish, which was my least favorite because of its texture.

Engawa halibut
Scottish salmon
Striped jack
Seabream.

Cod with miso, spinach, garlic, and chili flakes. This was so fucking good. I couldn’t tell if it was chickpeas or lentils… or possibly another grain?

Fried scallop with shrimp, crab, shinjyo/dashi.

Amberjack
Fatty tuna, toro, always a good choice.
Yellow tail
Seared scallop with caviar
Our omakase was complete, but we were still hungry. We went ahead and ordered more food because that’s what we do apparently…

A5 wagyu skewer. The meat was so tender and juicy.

Mackerel
Rosy seabass, it was delightfully rich and fatty for a white fish.
Black cod, another favorite of mine.

Black sesame and matcha ice cream. I love black sesame anything and it’s got a lot of antioxidants too.
We ate and talked for about two hours at the restaurant and then another hour outside of the restaurant. It’s been a minute since we last saw one another and we weren’t sure when he was going to stop by again. Maybe I’ll see him when I go to SF to see the RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me exhibit.
