pushing up daisies

LINK: pushing up daisies

There are days when the patients don’t make it.

On one occasion, I sat in my director’s office and we rocked in our chairs in unison for a couple of minutes, neither of us saying a word.

All I kept thinking was, “What the fuck just happened?”

After she dropped a few “F” bombs, we looked at each other, then quickly looked away. She was about to cry but I could tell that she didn’t want me to see her in this vulnerable state.

It made me uncomfortable so I got up and left.

I had work to do. Patients were waiting for me.

I didn’t have time to be in my feels. I had to get back to work…

Side note: years ago, we were all encouraged to seek therapy. It was HIGHLY encouraged. My team and I all obliged. In a way, it brought us closer to one another. We can simply give each other a look and we’ll know exactly what that means. And because we have shared trauma and experiences, it has bonded us.
