California
Vesta, in Redwood City was delicious. Also, BTS ate there three times. We missed them by 30 minutes. Le sigh.
Ozzy’s Apizza in Glendale has awesome New Haven style pizza. It looks basic but it’s anything but.
Truly pizza in Orange County has really great thin crust pizza. Of all the pizzas I ate there, the Skinny Margherita was the best. Don’t waste your money on the other ones.
Illinois
For me, it’s a toss up between Pequod’s and Gino’s East. I absolutely love Chicago deep dish pizza. That thick buttery crust and San Marzano sauce on top is so fucking good.
The next time I’m in Chicago, I want to try Burt’s Place for pizza (recommended by the late Anthony Bourdain)… plus they have cheese curds.
Minnesota
Pow Wow Grounds Coffee has a unique type of pizza made with fry bread instead of regular pizza dough. Their menu and ingredients aren’t always stocked adequately so you get what you get. Side note, I haven’t been there in two years so IDK if they still offer the fry bread pizzas anymore.
During my vegetarian phase, I was obsessed with Davanni’s. Don’t judge. It’s a chain but tell me why their veggie pizza, cheese hoagie, and garlic cheese bread were so good? I was a working student at the time but damn if it didn’t hit the spot. I might have to go back the next time I’m in MSP just for nostalgia’s sake.
New York
Joe’s Pizza Broadway, there’s always a line out the door but rest assured, the line goes by quick. The place is chaotic in a good way. Five Star and I got the veggie pie. The pizza slices are huge and foldable without getting soggy. There are a lot of celebrities that frequent the joint and it’s also where Peter Parker (Spider-Man 2) worked as a delivery boy.
There was a pizza place in Brooklyn that I really liked that my friend took me to but they closed up shop since the pandemic.
