LINK: me and the virgo
Yesterday was Beau Mec’s birthday and I wished him a happy birthday. He’s one of the rare exes that I’m still friendly with. On occasions, he reads my blog but I haven’t asked him about it lately.
When we dated, we disagreed about plenty of things, but we got over it quickly—mostly because it took some prodding from me, especially when admittedly… it was my fault, but it happens nevertheless. Misconjectures. Things getting misconstrued. There were misunderstandings.
He is very logical, linear, stable, pragmatic… not a lot rattles him. He remains calm, poised, and patient. He’s mature even though he’s younger than I am. He is also a perfectionist. He used to correct my grammar and I let him. He’s the English major and I am fully aware of my atrocious grammar (I apologize to all the English majors and teachers who are reading my blog and cringing). My ENGRISH skillz haven’t gotten any better but my Spanish has, for what that’s worth. He is quite hairy, which I never got over… and never again. Sorry but not sorry. He is modest, whereas I lean more towards being salacious.
I, on the other hand, can be temperamental especially during extreme heat waves or when my anemia flares up, flighty, and overzealous when it comes to my endeavors. On the inside, I am a complete spazz, passionate, occasionally childish at times, and easily excitable, yet able to have 눈치 (noonchi—social awareness, reading the room, being mindful) despite everything I was feeling. On the outside, I appear to have a flat affect but this was perfected through extensive training, which has helped me immensely at work.
Technically, we both have tempers. I’ve got the K-rage in my DNA. He’s British, so his version is more “mildly miffed or cross”… but the potential was always there for an explosion. Yet, it never detonated happened. Maybe if it did happen, it would have been beautiful to witness… or fucking scary.
He wondered if I saw him as an NPC (Non-player character: dull) or basic. I wondered if he saw me as too tempestuous. But his stability grounded me and I was learning to be a bit more patient. He was nothing but good to me during our time together.
I think I had the opposite effect on him, I’ve stirred things up in his life. He often said that it may be a good thing that we’re different because he considers himself to be “boring” and when a boring person dates another boring person… well that’s just fucking boring2, right? I’ve never dated anyone who has been this steady and even-keeled, so it was a welcomed change.
So happy belated birthday, Beau Mec. You’re still one of the good ones.
