I’m spending Halloween at the Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills to see the Fleurs de Villes—THE GILDED AGE. I’ve never seen the series before but I am looking forward to seeing the floral dresses that are on display. I bet they are going to be exquisite! I’m going with one of my friends, who is a television producer.

The Gilded Age trailer is giving… Bridgerton meets Downton Abbey. I love watching aristocratic families and their staff, all that properness and highbrow shenanigans… middle-class Americans could never.

Maybe that is exactly why people tune in. We’re told that we can be whatever we want, so watching a world with rigid hierarchy is fascinating. Plus, I love the chisme, especially the wealthy with English accents kinda cheese.

Koreans have their own dynasties, called 재벌 (chaebol— rich family/clan of wealth) and are used as backdrop tropes in K-dramas, but not much is known about them because they are protected and have a lot of control over the government and the country.
