All the highs and lows (highs and lows)
All the tears and the pain
You’ve been there through it all
Been through it all, just do it again
Now you got to believe (I believe)
‘Cause you know what it takes
To be living my dream
At the top of your game
What’s the grossest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Prompt created by yours truly.

I’d love to read your responses.
At the time, I was dating Craig, a chef—Chinese, extrovert, and nearing the height of his career. He was featured all over the Food Network and I was really proud of him. Everywhere we went, people stopped him and wanted to take a picture with him. I’d take a step back and let him do his thing.
We were sitting at a hotel bar one night when he had this mischievous look on his face. “You’re adventurous with your food, Rojie. Do you want to try something with me right now?”
Without hesitation, I said yes. He’s never disappointed me before in the food realm.
He reached inside his pocket and pulled out a small box. He leaned in and told me that inside were dead crickets and that we were going to eat them. Crickets. That was def not on my bingo card.
He plucked one between his fingers, dropped it into his mouth and slowly chewed… with his eyes locked on me, watching my face go through various cycles of disgust. The thought of eating Jiminy Cricket was gross to me, but he kept insisting that crickets had high nutritional value.
Okay, I thought. I can do this…
I held out my hand. and let him pour a few into my palm. First of all, why are they so big? Secondly, why can I still see their legs? The longer I stared at them, the more my stomach churned.
I flagged down the bartender for a glass of water, took a deep breath, and placed all of them into my mouth. I tried to convince myself that I was chewing a dry leaf as I crunched away. Once I chewed it into a finely ground powder, I swallowed and chased it down with the water.
He looked at me with glee. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him so happy before. He asked me if I wanted more.
I shook my head. “It’s all yours, I’m good.”
