What’s the hardest thing about getting older?

Prompt created by yours truly.
Feel free to use any prompts for August that I post and/or tag me.
I’d love to read your responses

  1. Watching my mom get older. She lives with me, so I see her every day. We’ll be in the middle of a conversation and I’ll notice a new wrinkle or how far her grays have grown in and it startles me by how much she’s aged right before my eyes. Knowing that one day, she’ll succumb to a disease (she’s healthy right now, aside from having hypercholesterolemia) is still hard for me to imagine… despite our differences.
  2. Making friends is harder. I’m not good at it since I’m awkward, quiet, and for the most part I keep to myself… unless alcohol is involved.
  3. My body going through wear and tear but in my mind, I continue to think that I’m forever XXI.
  4. Knowing that I won’t have as many “firsts”. First trip to France. First kiss. First mind-blowing sex. First food tour. First concert. Now, it feels a bit rare having new experiences and the days feel more like it’s on repeat.

      1. Info-Man Avatar

People say i look like my mom so if I get old I might look similar to her …….i don’t want to get old though 😞.

I feel like this is getting more and more common. On the bright side you have autonomy and pets!

i’m still a slave to my job and this wack ass regime we’re under

      1. Ajinkya Rane Avatar

Sorry about that. Time will solve everything regime wise.

But I think it’s okay to have just a few ‘first’ as long as it’s so memorable. I think it feels enough. Imagine I have a few ‘firsts’ compared to yours on things you shared here.😁

Though, I have ‘firsts’ you don’t experience, too. And that’s how life works.

Let me see daily pains (mine are arthritis driven). Knowing you’ve lived most of your life, the simple things you did aren’t as easy or simple; your vision isn’t as good. Mostly, it is the things you can’t do anything about.

    1. justrojie Avatar

oh boy, my vision already is terrible at -7 bilaterally

Hopefully your mom will be around for a long time. It sounds to me that she is in decent shape.

I agree with #1-3, those are tough. But #4, as long as we’re breathing we always have more firsts and I’d question if days feeling more like they’re on repeat isn’t something other than getting older.

    1. justrojie Avatar

thank you, Michael! I do work a lot so it’s a lot of going to work, work, driving home from work, eat, sleep and repeat. I do try to make the most of my days off though.

i’ve often thought about setting aside a part of my house, or even a room to act as some sort of museum of things that make up the tapestry of my life. you really do perceive it all differently when you realize that you are on the other side of the identity and age hill that people instinctively identify with as “living”.

but then again, do remember that ol’ Julius Ceasar was 56 when he decided to throw big hands with the entire Roman Senate by crossing the Rubicon river. something to think about right? 🙂

Watching my parents age and become fragile is not only depressing, it’s scary because it’s a window into my future.

All the aches and pains and the inability to bounce back from things that didn’t even phase me when I was younger sucks too.

But hey, I’ve got wisdom and confidence. That makes up for it, right?

    Right!?

    1. justrojie Avatar

right!! and by the time it’s my turn to be old and withered away, i’ll have robots caring for me at a nursing home or maybe in my own home lol

I guess you’re planning and working towards other types of earning ventures. Just keep going.

I’m 52, and right now.. just living the best life I can in my situation. It’s not perfect, but what ever is. Things may seem perfect. What is perfect is living by what Buddha says, not giving a hot damn what ppl say, or… just watch this????????? https://youtu.be/GA5VXiOeY2k

    1. justrojie Avatar

lol that would be cool for a cat to have
