circa 2003-2008

LINK: circa 2003-2008

I used to love MySpace. I loved designing the page to fit my mood for that week/day/hour. This is where I started learning html and added so many cool custom features like raindrop effects, hover text effects, animated objects, that annoying auto-playing music, and surveys that were posted.

It was also an era when I WaS LyK LiTERaLLy TyPiNg LyK DiS. I made so many online friends through this platform, found a bunch of bands/artists that I probably wouldn’t have known about otherwise, and it was a safe space… we could say whatever the fuck we wanted on there.

This was a time where the top eight friends created so much drama and people threatened to leave MySpace altogether… but would return in less than a week because it was the place to be.

It was fucking glorious. Now, I know I may be romanticizing this a bit but I had so many fond memories during that time.

I created a basic template with the help of Claude for those who are interested and want to design their own. I’ve already added Tom’s photo since he was everyone’s first friend.

If anyone is interested, you can use Canva since I made it into an editable PDF. Those who have never used Canva before, there is a tutorial for beginners. You can change anything you want on it (text/pictures/background/layout).

It might take me a while to complete mine since my work schedule is chaotic right now but if anyone does make a MySpace page using this template, please tag me. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see what you created.

isn’t there talk of bringing myspace back? i know it still exists, and it used largely by musicians but i think the new investors want to to make it a relevant social media platform again.

Check this out —> https://spacehey.com/ IDK if this is active now but you can always test it out?? I think Myspace is/was the best bc it’s where I discovered Shakira and Stabilo (Canadian alt rock band) and Nelly Furtado. 🙂 Great times indeedly doo. I can remember showing Bees Stabilo and then later, going to Sunrise Records to get the CD. I think that was the last time I bought a CD tbh. 2006. My Buddha. That feels so damn close yet far away. That would be the year I moved in my group home. 😮

When the internet and social media was young. My space seems so pure and innocent compared to the present. 🙁

I remember MySpace. And Friendster. Livejournal. And a few others.

Maybe not the most polished of interfaces, but I wouldn’t call what we have now superior.

Of course, I’m off social media, so what do I know?

    1. justrojie Avatar

      Friendster sounds familiar!!

I loved Myspace back in the day! Also, though, our band was one of the many victims of the Great Myspace Data Loss of 2019–I’m never getting some of those songs back. Still, I would be interested in Myspace coming back as an old school, non-algorithmic social media platform.

yasss maybe you’ll be able to be discovered in the new myspace that they’re supposedly launching
