What’s the last book you couldn’t put down?
The Host. It’s a sci-fi + romance book by the author who wrote Twilight, Stephenie Meyer. The writing is actually much better than the Twilight series.
It’s set in the future where Earth has been conquered by an alien species called Souls—parasites that inserts themselves into human hosts and take over their minds and memories, leaving the original consciousness behind.
The majority of the story is about Wanderer, a Soul who was placed inside the body of Melanie Stryder, a young human resistance fighter. Melanie who is held hostage by the parasite refuses to give up. She fights back from within, flooding Wanderer with her memories about her family and her boyfriend, Jared. Wanderer finds herself drawn into Melanie’s emotions and sets out to find the people Melanie can’t let go of.
When she finds a hidden colony of human survivors living in the desert, they are extremely suspicious of her, as they should. Caught between two worlds and two different identities, Wanderer begins to question everything—her loyalty, what it means to be human, and where she truly belongs.
They even made a movie too. I haven’t seen it but I heard it was pretty good?
