I’ve been slacking on the sushi lately. What’s up with that?
As of late, I’ve had to eat more meat because of my anemia, I suppose I ought to call those outings “meat sweats” eve though I don’t really perspire while eating copious amounts of meat.
But back to sushi, it was one of those days at work where a colleague, Sage, and I had time to actually leave the campus to eat lunch. This was her last day before being transferred to another department. We’ve gotten closer over the years (after she had a falling out with my arch nemesis) and it’s been nice to have someone to confer with when needed. She’d always bring treats for the department and made it feel inclusive.
She suggested that we go to a restaurant that wasn’t the traditional type of sushi but with a Thai twist. I figured, why not?

Volcano roll
Inside: baked salmon, avocado
Top: whitefish, masago, green onion, spicy mayo
Sauce: eel sauce

Cincinnati roll
Inside – spicy shrimp and imitation crab with avocado
Top: seared salmon with chili powder

Tiger roll:
Inside – shrimp tempura, cream cheese, avocado, and cucumber
Top – seared shrimp with spicy creamy sauce
I think my favorite of the three was the tiger roll, mostly because it had a nice kick to it. I guess that’s the Thai twist? The food was good, not spectacular but solid, plus we were able to get away and enjoy our meal together.
Le sigh. Things sure are going to be different without her there.
