i wanna…

LINK: i wanna…

If money and time weren’t factors, what obscure skill would you master in the next year?

Prompt created by yours truly.
Feel free to use any prompts for April 2026 that I post and/or tag me.
I’d love to read your responses.

  • be a sushi chef (but I’m told that I can’t because I’m female and our hands are too warm and that it could ruin the raw fish or rice).
  • be an HVAC technician, I think that would it would be handy to know.
  • pruning Bonsai trees, it looks rather relaxing.
  • learning calligraphy, it is beautiful to look at.
  • be a master mechanic. I don’t know much about cars but I think it would be pretty cool to fix cars.
  • excel in archery, I learned the basics in junior high school in Minnesota.
  • become a master sommelier. My palate would be super refined.

Are you practicing any of those hobbies currently? I took a bartending class for a week just for fun, got drunk each day and didn’t learn a thing lol. However, I have seen sushi being made by women before, I call BS on the guy who said it can’t be done. Warm hands? Please! We have fridges now!

    1. justrojie Avatar

Great prompt, because I’ve done this! I’m an avid science fiction reader and one of the perspectives of Robert Heinlein whose stories I treasure is that everyone should learn at some point in their life that not everything comes from a store. When I was a little girl my mom taught my sister and myself to knit and sew so we learned how to make not only things like baby blankets but also our own clothes. I’ve expanded that crafting to include crocheting, weaving, tatting, felting, and even spinning my own wool to make my own yarn! Thanks for such a great prompt!

Ooh now that is super useful and it sounds fun! Do you ever sell your crotchet pieces?

      1. ejweidig Avatar

Nope! Just donate or give as gifts

Those are great jobs to learn. Just takes time and patience and you could master some of those jobs like a suchi chef. I think you would be an amazing suchi chef, just takes practice.

    1. justrojie Avatar

I’d love to become an expert in photography, woodworking, astronomy, and soldering.

With the possible exception of photography, these are all solitary activities that are almost meditative in practice. I get to be alone and focused on something of interest.

But careful what your wish for. Mechanical work (such as car or HVAC) can also be meditative. But I found that as I got older, working on a car became more about “just f*cking work already!” and less meditative / enjoyable.

    1. justrojie Avatar

lol that is true… i just like diagnosing and fixing things…

  13. Zenith Avatar
