March to the beat of, beat of my drum
‘Cause when I call you, you’re gonna come
Hold in position, it’s gonna blow
You only move when, when I say so

Back in the early 2000s, I was obsessed with the first couple of seasons of Scrubs. I loved JD + Turk’s bromance energy and Dr. Cox was an epic douche bucket. But after a while, life got busy. I had tons of homework that needed to get done and piano sheet music that I needed to memorize and watching television was no longer something I had time for.

Last week, my assistant asked if I wanted to watch Scrubs so we could talk about it together at work next week. I figured, why the fuck not? I’m busy but that’s not going to change and for nostalgia’s sake, I wanted to see if it was as good as I remembered.

The first two episodes that dropped got me. Surprisingly, the show is medically accurate unlike Grey’s Anatomy (throws shade). Another show that is also medically accurate is The Pitt, which won a plethora of awards recently. The Pitt is also in the queue but right now I don’t have the bandwidth for medical drama because I literally live it almost every day. It would feel like work and I’m not trying to do that right now.

Scrubs is iconic. It not only sheds light on humanity and emotional depth but also keeps it 100 portraying the daily grind, bureaucracy, insecurities, normalizing that healthcare workers are human and can make mistakes, and how death impacts us… while keeping it light. Plus each episode is about 20-22 minutes, which is perfect for my attention span these days.

Scrubs in 2026 just hits different.

Do you watch any medical television shows?

I did used to like Scrubs too. Am watching The Pitt right now, it’s alright but Dr Robby kind of annoys me. They all take themselves a bit too seriously.

The Good Doctor. I LOVE Freddie Highmore!! So cute!! But my niche is law shows. OMG. I am OBSESSED with CSI: NY — love Danny Messer!! Could care less about Lindsay tho.

I saw an episode of Scrubs a long time ago, I think a couple, the cast is wicked!! ER was really good I heard and of course Clooney was playing in it in his spanky, but lol, Mash when I was little, I play the theme on my guit. Lol

Forensic files is the closest to a medical show i watch because it gives a scientific explanation of a death and without science. The cases would not get solved. Scrubs sounds interesting. I don’t know maybe.

i like watching forensic files too!

Yes! Cool it is a good show, but it isn’t good what happens to people. It is terrible, but at least they catch the people who do those terrible things to other people.

I liked the original Scrubs back in the day. As a lay person, I had no idea it was medically accurate. Huh.

Haven’t watched the reboot – I’ve heard it isn’t very good.

I remember that! Wow… time flies.

I liked “House,” but after a while, the miraculous rabbit he’d pull out of his hat at the last second got kinda hokey. During Covid, I found “Emergency” on MeTV. I barely remember watching that as a kid… really good, about these two paramedics and their relationship with the docs/nurses at “Rampart General” in LA. In watching it now, and reading about it, it paralleled the real-life emergence of the paramedic profession. The docs didn’t dig it… “Pfff! Chhh! What are these AMATEURS doing playing Doctor?” but after restarting hearts, administering anti venom, and buying the victims precious time, they grudgingly began to respect them.

The stories were varied and interesting and not only included medicine but firefighters and interesting cases. One involved a pilot and his kid in a little Cessna. Dad has a heart attack, flies into the top of a huge pine tree, plane conks out, kid on the radio, etc. Worth a watch and love the fashion and 70s pop culture references 😎👏🏄🏻‍♂️

house is great, he’s so cantankerous lol. haha emergency sounds like it would be fun to watch

Rojie, it def is. The two paramedics, Gage and DeSoto, are great together. DeSoto is a stable family guy and Gage is a younger bachelor, always chasing some goofy new scheme. Worth a watch.
