They say, “The holy water’s watered down
And this town’s lost its faith
Our colors will fade eventually”
So if our time is runnin’ out
Day after day
We’ll make the mundane our masterpiece

I went to visit my Bolivian friend who brought me back treats from her trip back home.

I didn’t have the heart to tell her that I wasn’t eating gluten. I accepted the chocolates and brought them home with me.

She joked that she was going to have me pronounce her words for her. Even though she’s Bolivian, she can’t roll her R’s.

Her: how do you say “car” in Spanish?
Me: coche, auto, carrrrrro
Her: in Bolivia, we say auto
Me: claro, gรผey
Her: bruh, you’re basically a Latina
Me: maybe in my previous life, I was

I was heavily influenced by my dad and minored in Spanish. He could speak some Spanish with a Korean accent, “Muchas grasshias.” He loved Mexican food… lengua, cabeza, and all that. He followed a Peruvian pan flutist who used to perform at the Minnesota malls and bought his cds. My dad’s goal was to master the accordion but he passed away before he could.

I have been around Spanish speakers most of my life- and I can understand a lot more than I can put into grammatically correct sentences!

as long as you can understand it, that’s the most important part, i think!

El jefe Nicholas condujo hasta Wakefield en medio de una tormenta de nieve en la vรญspera de Navidad en un camiรณn de cinco toneladas para entregar una caja de deliciosas frutas y verduras. That’s very neat about your father Ro., I find this very sweet to read indeed.

Thankyou, a result of British education ๐Ÿ˜. Something good came out of that.

        1. justrojie Avatar

lol unfortunately british education isnt a thing here and it’s reported that 21% of adults in the US are either illiterate or have low literacy skills…

Ooh that’s terrible. I remember reading a long time ago, that many could not read or have trouble reading even in high schools. Over here, there are plenty of vernac schools, so those coming from that background struggle with English. Education has become a business, and literacy is a numbers game. Children are becoming literate but not educated. And we still have millions living below the poverty line.

sigh… i wish things were different. these billionaires thrive on those who aren’t educated.
