Currently listening to: Lonely – RM (from BTS)

I shot a million stars to let you know
So many trivial thoughts are on the floor
And now I hate the buildings I don’t even know
Just wanna go back home

ian m dudley is sharing night photos as open prompts. I thought I would partake in this.

As I listen to my mom on the phone, I think to myself, “Damn. She could win the gold medal if talking on the phone was an Olympic sport.” She loves calling her friends, catching up with them, and gossiping about everything and nothing. She has the stamina to go hours and hours.

Just overhearing her go at it is exhausting. I mean, it is impressive… but what the hell do people have to talk about for hours at a time in one sitting?

I am the complete opposite. Text, DM me instead. I like being efficient, I can do multiple things while texting, granted, I am “not in the moment” but the enthusiasm is there. I can be out and about and text if needed. DMs is a bit different because I do not have my notifications set up for my socials. But regardless, both text and DM, I’ll get to it when I get to it is kinda my attitude about that.

When my phone rings, I automatically let it go to voicemail. If it’s important, they’ll leave me a voicemail. The only time I can’t do that is when work calls me on my work cell. I have to answer the phone when I’m on the clock.

Maybe it’s because I’ve been trained to keep the conversation moving along because time is of the essence when I’m with a patient. I’ve got other people in the queue so it’s important that I extract the most pertinent information as soon as humanly possible.

I remember one of my exes looooved talking on the phone. He just could not get enough of it. His voice was soothing, I’ll give him that but after a long day of listening to people, there’s only so much rambling I can process before I fall asleep. And trust, I’ve fallen asleep many times while he was talking.

Rojie.. I think moms are like that and they want us to listen to them as that’s the way they shower us with love and lectures (my mom used to do it all the time why I am not eating why am I not sleeping and so on) 🫣
    Beautiful song choice 🥰♥️

lol my mom is like that with her friends, specially her church friends and relatives. my conversations with her are rather brief. i love the song too!

Time is precious, and every time people give time to me whether they drop me a message and comment here, it matters to me. I can’t do phone calls for so long, too. It makes me bored. My calls are always about my family in our group chat. Nothing else. I know how hectic your schedule, and thank you for spending time with my blogs.

i enjoy reading your blog, Hazel. it’s like a breath of fresh air :>

I had an ex who insisted on talking on the phone every night. Even if we’d just spent the whole day together.

I could never think of anything to say, especially on days when we’d hung out.

That never made sense to me.

It was a clear sign she’d end up an ex…

    1. justrojie Avatar

def a clear sign lol. idk whenever i’d fall asleep and then hang up when i realized i fell asleep, he’d call back. like why?

      1. ianmdudley Avatar

That guy wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.

        No wonder he’s an ex…

(If my ex had called me back, I’d have been p*ssed. But I was too much of a coward to hang up or fall asleep on her.)

        1. justrojie Avatar

lol yup another reason it wouldn’t have lasted

I hate talking on the phone, and most of the time I let calls go to voicemail. Like Violet and you, my ringer is off, and I actually use my smartwatch to see who is calling. My wife, though, will be on the phone all day talking to her gazillion friends. 😂

    1. justrojie Avatar

lolol my mom knows better than to call me now… she’s been texting me the past couple of years now cause i get so annoyed with her calling

      1. Edward Ortiz Avatar

😂 That’s funny. I call my mom once a week because texting isn’t her thing. She’s also the only one I call routinely.

I wonder whether it’s a generational thing–or at least partly generational. I know a lot of older folks who would rather poke their eyes out than send a text. My younger daughters, on the other hand, sometimes seem like they have never had an actual phone conversation on their phones.

    1. justrojie Avatar

i’d even settle for a voice msg instead of an actual call lol

I don’t talk with my mum as much either. I’m actually very sad, I rarely talk with people, phone or not 🤣.

    1. justrojie Avatar

lol i wish less pple would talk to me. maybe one day when i retire lolol

Texting lets me multitask and stay efficient. I can’t do long calls.

    1. justrojie Avatar

      same!!

  13. robin_reads_it Avatar

I loathe long conversations unless it’s my parents, kids, close friends or boyfriend. Texting for me is quick because I can get other things done and maintain efficiency at both jobs.

    1. justrojie Avatar

i don’t even like talking on the phone with my friends lol let alone my mom

  14. Jesse Pallante Avatar
