LINK: here without you (rojie’s version)
Currently listening to: Here Without You – 3 Doors Down
A hundred days have made me older
Since the last time that I saw your pretty face
A thousand lies have made me colder
And I don’t think I can look at this the same
But all the miles that separate
Disappear now when I’m dreaming of your face
I’m here without you, baby
But you’re still on my lonely mind
I think about you, baby
And I dream about you all the time
RIP Brad Arnold.
My former roommate from Chicago was the one who introduced me to this band and this song. It was a song I had on heavy rotation since I was coming out of a breakup. The lyrics somehow crawled inside my head and stayed there for quite some time. I mean how could it not? “I’m here without you, baby, but you’re still on my lonely mind”. Le sigh.
I never told him that I missed him. I didn’t want to reopen that door. I just wanted to revisit the good times we shared and let the memories linger for a bit, while still moving forward.
When I was living in Chicago, my friends and I would have late night NRB (noraebang/노래방) seshes after clubbing. Typically, the night would entail two clubs back-to-back, NRB, then food, and stumbling back home around 0800. NRB is like karaoke but instead of singing to a roomful of strangers, there are dimly lit private rooms with disco lights, two mics, tambourine, more liquor, and some even have food that you can order.
Picture eight guys and two girls packed into a room, passing around two mics and a tambourine, singing every breakup anthem and ballad ever. We were all inebriated AF and absolutely shameless. Zero fucks were given as we belted out song after song, pretending that we were professional singers, all while laughing at each as we sang off-key.
I am not a good singer, and I am aware of this. I’ll stick to my day job. But back when I played in the church band, singing was not the main focus for me. I was usually behind the piano or keyboard, filling in harmonies or as a backup singer.
It’s been a minute since I’ve been to an NRB, but recently I asked Nico to play “More Than Words” on his guitar to see if I could sing along. I wasn’t very good but I had fun nevertheless. So thanks for indulging me, Nico.
Side note, I do enjoy collaborating with people. It makes blogging more interactive and meaningful.
