How do you respond to conflict?
Yes, that’s my RBF. I was trying on the new sunglasses I ordered online cause I broke my other pair, which I’m still salty about.
My colleagues say that I’m very nice. I am nice. But I want to clarify that this is by California standards. By Minnesota standards, I’m probably not that nice but I am cordial.
When it comes to conflict, I don’t like it at all. I tend to go the avoidant route and ignore the comment or situation. If that’s not an option, I’ll change the subject or leave the chat/ghost the person. Sometimes, I just don’t have the bandwidth… plus confronting people makes me uncomfortable.
If it is my bad, I can admit it. I’ll take the L . My exes have seen all sides of this, me shutting down, disappearing for days, and owning up to my shortcomings.
But if I’m feeling particularly sassy, a little spicy, or I’ve reached my threshold of dumbassery for the day, I will push back. I’ll make a counter statement and then drop the mic. I’m told that I pull things out of left field and blindsight people when I do that. I’ll put on my big girl pants when needed and sit there and debate, go back and forth, and hold my ground. I’m usually pretty succinct but if I am passionate about a topic, I can get extremely verbose and volley with the person till the cows come home.
