A few years ago, Amanda introduced me to salteñas and honestly I’ve never been the same. Since then, I’ve introduced it to my Mexican friends and they’ve been hooked on it.
The other day, Jessica texted me first thing in the morning asking if I was down to get salteñas. They’ve been living rent-free in her head ever since I took her to that bakery. I hadn’t had one in almost six months, I was long overdue so I told her I was down to get some.

They are about $5 a piece but it’s so worth it. I ate both of them while we sat there yapping away for an hour.

It’s like a Bolivian empanada/hand pie/turnover but the outside crust is sweet and the inside has beef, eggs, potatoes, olives, raisins, and broth.
