It hits different this time
Catastrophic blues
Movin’ on was always easy for me to do

What is a bandwagon you jumped on?

Prompt snagged from: TCMC

In school we were trained to spot patterns before they go mainstream (diseases, symptoms, behaviors, and etc.) so hopping on trends early is actually fun for me.

While some are still dipping a baby toe in, I’m already halfway down the rabbit hole with an opinion about it that no one asked for. My millennial friends will send me reels and TikTok of things that I posted on my stories or sent to them weeks ago. It’s giving boomer energy… but then again, my boomer friends are more hip than they are sometimes. SMH.

By the time something blows up on TikTok and then trickles into IG, it’s already old. Things move at a fast pace, but they have a way of coming back and become popular again. That’s why I see Gen Zs wearing vintage t-shirts of bands like STP, Pink Floyd, and Nirvana.

Things that I’ve gotten over already:

  • Labubu
  • permanent jewelry
  • HOKA
  • boba
  • Dubai chocolate – that was so 2023.
  • tradwife, I could never
  • burrata on everything
  • Stanley cups – but I still use mine because it holds 40 oz conveniently. Also, I didn’t buy mine, a friend gifted it to me last year as a birthday gift.
  • K-pop Demon Hunters – it had a good run. I imagine it’ll be trending again when the sequel comes out.
  • the words, “sando”, “big yikes”, “skibidi”, and “gyaat”

These are the current trends I’m STILL on:

  • Shohei Ohtani
  • minimalism
  • beef tallow
  • glass skin
  • athleisure fits
  • authenticity
  • declining trust in media
  • AI
  • Meta glasses + neural band – I’m still debating on this. During Cyber Monday, they were having a sale but it was only on generation 1 glasses. I just can’t justify the $799 cost right now and need to learn more about the long term effects. I also can’t stand Zuck.
  • PDRN
  • Yemeni coffee
  • red light mask
  • exosome serum
  • cyber futurism aesthetic
  • privacy – another reason why I’ve been on my socials less
  • matcha
  • pandan
  • sourdough – it’s been a decade and I’m still on it
  • New Balance – since HOKAs are the new Boomer shoes, they reinvented their brand
  • K-pop – it’s in my DNA
  • true crime documentaries

dubai chocolate trend was so random for me

    1. justrojie Avatar

      It really was!

I’ve heard some pretty ugly conspiracy theories as to the origin of Dubai chocolate. I really, REALLY hope they aren’t true.

What exactly does permanent jewelry mean? Isn’t all jewelry permanent? Aren’t diamonds forever?

    I will never understand today’s youth…

    1. justrojie Avatar

Omg what conspiracy theories?? It’s a bracelet that has no clasp to take off

      1. ianmdudley Avatar

I won’t repeat the theory, as it’s disgusting, but I will say this: the marketing of the chocolates is supposed to be a psyop to bump the disgusting ‘true’ meaning to the bottom of the search engine results, and that it involved paying countless influencers to talk about the chocolate.

        1. justrojie Avatar

          That’s wild!

          1. ianmdudley Avatar

            And not entirely implausible…

    I had to google PDRN–

    I’ve…learned a lot!

As one ages especially with fashion comfort trumps trends 100%. I wore trendy illfitting shoes for decades not realizing I had wise feet and developed bunions. So now I wear wider shoes..went a bit retro with some 90’s hip hop fashion with white K-Swiss Sneakers

    1. justrojie Avatar

Oooh I didn’t know k Swiss made wide shoes. I’ve got wide feet myself and they are flat too lol

What’s META glasses, eye glasses? And PDRN?

For some of these, it’s a cycle where they go dormant and then return after a few years. But you’re faster than the trends 😄.

    1. justrojie Avatar

Meta glasses and the band is like having Google and chat gpt in your glasses and finger tips! Pdrn is from salmon eggs that help regenerate tissue

      1. ibarynt Avatar

Goodness me, do we want that much information 🤔… These poor amimals, its not enough we’re eating them 😆

        1. justrojie Avatar

Is there ever enough knowledge? 😆 I’m trying to be more efficient so idk if this would be helpful or be more distracting

          1. ibarynt Avatar

Its about the pros and cons.

  9. Darryl B Avatar

Beef tallow, lol! 😂 There’s this word puzzle game I play on with a team and it’s fun… there’s a chat feature and the people are cool. But the ads… ooof… one I see daily is for “Forge Beef Tallow”… oh man, soooo lame… all these old dudes smearing this stuff on their faces… the before and after pix with a little AI help are ridiculous, the clock is rewound 30 years…all these hotties checking them out wistfully on the street, on the escalator, some turning around to gawp. (Scottish accent) “Where’s yer prrride, man?!” 😂🤣

    1. justrojie Avatar

🤣 what’s old is new again that’s for sure

What? No more Labubu? I can’t believe it. Now HOKA, that’s another story. I tried them once and wasn’t impressed. I think the ASICS Nimbus are much better.

    1. justrojie Avatar

I’ve never tried asics but I heard they’re nice!

      1. Edward Ortiz Avatar

I think their cushioning is better than Hoka’s.
