sushi monster 12.0

We were near the USC campus and decided to try Ebaes again. The owner, Eric Bae (Korean) was really nice to us and it had a good vibe. The last time I was there was several years ago and I remembered it being fairly decent back then.

The inside is eclectic looking and surprisingly very empty. I don’t know if that says anything about the economy or maybe we came on an off day?

This was the bathroom wallpaper, nothing but Hello Kitty and I’m not mad about it either.

Obviously, the food here is not authentic Japanese. It’s more of a mix of different Asian-American cuisines.

Well, either my palate has changed over time or the quality went down significantly because the food was mid and that’s being generous.

Cream cheese wontons
Truffle fries
The Original Ebaes Ramen – sweet, spicy and creamy shrimp broth with chicken, scallions, tomato, corn, and coconut milk.

Godzilla roll: inside – tempura shrimp, avocado; top- tuna, salmon, ebi, avocado, with house poke sauce
Crispy rice spicy tuna – crispy rice, eel sauce, spicy sauce, spicy mayo, green onion, sesame seeds, and tuna

I had immediate regrets ordering sushi from here. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either and for the price point, it should have been delicious. Needless to say, we won’t be going back again. Ever.

Sounds like a fun return visit! The place seems to keep its charm, and it’s always great when the owner brings good energy. Curious to see how the “sushi monster” stacks up now! 🍣**

It is sad to say, when there is no one in a restaurant. It is usually a sign that the food isn’t that good. I love eel though. It looked good, but if you said it was mediocre. It definitely was. The hello kitty wallpaper was cool though. Hello Kitty is awesome 👌.
