How can you be a little less wasteful?

Prompt snagged from: TCMC

  • I don’t have the water running while I brush my teeth
  • I use the TOO GOOD TO GO app to buy food intermittently to fight food waste
  • I use reusable bags, but then again in California stores charge an extra 10-20 cents per plastic bag if you don’t have one
  • I don’t use straws
  • I use my 40 oz Stanley (that I was gifted) for water instead of single-use bottles
  • I also bought a reusable coffee mug from Costco to use instead of using disposable cup
  • I utilize used coffee grounds in my garden
  • I donate items often
  • I buy non-perishables items in bulk
  • I buy produce and foods at the farmers market to support local farmers and small businesses when possible
  • I recycle (paper, plastic, cardboard, and etc.) everything that I can
  • I compost organic waste
  • I like to walk as much as I can versus driving to places
  • I try to avoid foods wrapped in plastic… plus there’s the whole microplastic digestion situation too
  • I cook and meal plan often
  • I don’t use dryer sheets

What are some things that you do? I’m open to seeing what others do to reduce my carbon footprint.

We in my group home, compost food scraps. I have my own coffee cup, and water bottle (something bought at Walmart.. I’ve already chipped a bit of plastic off the top rim… but it’s still useful. I try to recycle plastic food containers. Newmarket is a very clean town, but Toronto…? lolol I remember going to the park when the 2002 Toronto garbage strike… omg.

It was possibly the worst thing that could and did happen.

    haha your carbon footprint? 😀

    I don’t print documents unnecessarily.
Shop secondhand for clothes and stuff that can be acquired this way-although not certain if this is really a choice.
    Repair items instead of replacing
Turn off lights and unplug electronics.

I am thinking that the more adversely the climate begins to effect individual people – the more of them will get serious- but my question is- will it already be too late?

    1. justrojie Avatar

i feel like it’s already too late… i read on the news that the antarctic glacier is retreating at a rate of 10 x faster than previously measured. one huge glacier shrunk by nearly 50% in two months and there’s been a significant global sea level rise and warming of regions.

I’m composting, and I throw coffee grounds, shredded paper, leaves, and other things into the bin. I actually have two bins, one that’s ready and that I use for our plants, and another that’s still in the process.

I use the bodies of my enemies to fertilizer my garden. Does that count? The tomatoes are amazeballs!

If only our government was more serious. I separate waste but when the dumpster collects, it doesn’t make sense difference 🤷‍♀️

    1. justrojie Avatar

oh nooo~~~ i can only hope that all the things that i do make a tiny tiny difference…

      1. ibarynt Avatar

It is the small that makes the biggest difference.
