Is there something you thought was a huge deal, but it didn’t end up being a big deal?

Hmm there are so many only to realize later that they really weren’t a big fucking deal at all:

  • being popular in high school. BTW, I never did go to my high school reunions, but mostly because they never organized any. I’m relieved but also kinda sad about it.
  • achieving high grades, GPA, ACT and SAT scores. I thought they would define the rest of my life. In Korea, they certainly do but in America, no one cares after high school ends.
  • graduation—high school + uni. I wasn’t planning on walking on graduation day from uni. I told my professors my parents couldn’t come because they would be in Korea… but when my rents found out the date, they forced me to attend my graduation ceremony. And I had to buy the cap and gown, which I later donated to the Goodwill.
  • going through heartbreak(s). At the moment, it feels like my world is ending. I replay conversations, analyze texts, cry endlessly into my pillow, and question my worth. But everyone at some point goes through it. My heartbreak(s) aren’t special, even though it feels like it.
  • having a bunch of followers on social media. I used to care, I was obsessed the numbers but now? I don’t have the bandwidth to care.
  • the whole getting married and having kids. It’s an expectation from society and my parents, but I was so turned off from my ex-fiancée that I have major trust and commitment issues.
  • going through a divorce. People used to look down on those separating but nowadays, no one really gives two shits.
  • being exclusive or inclusive. I just wanna do what I wanna do.

My high school and college batch are mostly married with kids. I am left behind, but I’m okay.🤭 Rojie, hugs to you. I hope you wash your pillow tomorrow.😍 I just want to make you smile.🤭

ahh well i don’t mind being left behind. i see some of my friends struggling with their marriages and children, and being depressed or exasperated. i can do all that on my own lol i don’t need other people to make me feel bad.

Yes, a happy marriage is a plus. We can be happy without it, of course.

Truly! It has more positive things happen to us than negative ones.

I’m still worried about wasting that fucking avocado, grocery bills are no joke these days! Made me smile a bit reliving these through my own life and damn very pathetic in some instances. I agree to just live your fucking life as you wish because you truly only get the one go at. But easier said then done when your taught your whole life that you live as to not disappoint your predecessors. “Fml”

the inflation is astronomical and asinine. i’m still waiting for a reprieve. and all i can do is just do my best… whether it disappoints others or not. they can live their own lives.

The only people who still care about HS are the people who attend EVERY reunion. I went to two, only to notice that cliques were still a thing and that alone made me no.longer wish to attend any more.

Oh snap! Wow after all those years people still hold onto that…

Yup pretty pathetic..i went to 17th (supposed to have a 15th but the School treasurer stole the funds, was bankrolled by a rich classmate) & my 25th with my wife. Never went to another

Inner city class of 800. When I was in HS witnessed a stabbing, a kid being thrown thru a glass wall, and a not so scary food fight.

I try to avoid getting excited about anything these days. More often than not, I’m just disappointed.

    Bitterly.

And when I’m not disappointed, it feels like an even bigger fd.

    1. justrojie Avatar

idk what’s worse disappointment or sadness
