blood & myth

LINK: blood & myth

Watched Blood & Myth on Hulu. I am on a true crime documentary binge these days.

Teddy Kyle Smith, an Iñupiaq actor and former Marine from Kiana, a remote Alaskan village, went from a promising talent to a fugitive after a series of violent and tragic events. First, his mother died under mysterious circumstances. Then came the attempted murder of two hunters.

In the aftermath, Smith claims he wasn’t acting of his own will. He said he was under the influence of the iñukuns—mystical “little people” from Iñupiaq mythology, who are said to live in places untouched by humans. According to him, it was these beings who shaped and influenced his actions.

The documentary explores more than just his crimes but it also looks at the intersection of cultural identity, myth, and modern life. It also highlights the struggle of Indigenous communities face in preserving their traditions and ways of storytelling in today’s world.

I found this to be interesting because I wondered if these iñukuns were like those uncontracted tribes from South America. As someone who grew up with Korean folklore and mysticism, I couldn’t help but draw parallels (if you’ve seen Kpop Demon Hunters, then you know).

I just got done watching the show and I don’t know if I believe him when he says he hears inukuns in his head. Teddy, I don’t think he killed his mother, but he did shoot those two guys. So that is why he is in prison for attempted murder. But it is interesting how the inukuns took over his mind, maybe it was because he was drinking alcohol. That maybe the answer, just a guess. Who am I to say inukuns do not exist. They may. Well it was a good watch, thank you for the suggestion.

Thanks for watching!! I had the similar conclusion as you. I guess I really would like to meet one but it’s kinda scary too

        1. Jesse Pallante Avatar

Yes it is scary. You don’t want to meet a Teddy.

          1. justrojie Avatar

Nah I don’t wanna meet him but maybe the little people

Ok 😂 they are much better 😁. I don’t think the little people will hurt you.

I can tell you firsthand, there are many Iñupiaq that believe in the iñukuns- and many places we are waned not to wander into.

I’m pretty sure they exist… I just don’t know if they have the powers that the Iñupiaq claim that they have.

I find it fascinating how often criminals, once apprehended, try to avoid personal responsibility for their actions.

I suppose it’s rational – they’re facing prison and/or social judgment – but when caught red-handed, it irritates me and makes me want to come down on them harder. People who do this are not looking for rehabilitation.

I also believe they say he was drinking too so that’s another element

      1. ianmdudley Avatar

He should have stopped drinking after the first crime..

This actually looks really interesting. I’m not big on documentaries but this looks good and I know my wife will like this.

That sounds like a good watch but we don’t have Hulu. I can relate with the myth and folklore. In my community, the non-Christians still perform rituals. Balancing traditions with modernity is becoming more challenging, some want to go back to how it usedvto be. We are watching another documentary Desperately Seeking Soulmate on Prime.

      Ooh how is this documentary??

      1. ibarynt Avatar

About a couple running a twin flame school it seems and they force the person to pursue their crush, love interest, although it is one sided. Still watching.

        1. justrojie Avatar

This sounds like another documentary that was on Netflix about twin flames I wonder if they are the same people

          1. ibarynt Avatar

I’ll have to check the Netflix one… they could be… scammers everywhere.
