LINK: a korean-american weekend part II
Don’t ask me how many times I’ve rewatched Kpop Demon Hunters on Netflix. It’s embarrassing at this point. My favorite character is hands-down, Derpy, the mystical tiger inspired by Korean folklore. There’s just something so endearing about the character.
My friends and I dressed up as characters from the movie. I was Derpy, obvi, while my friends morphed into Sussie, Mira, Rumi, and Abby. Will this be our Halloween costume? I’ll be traveling that day so we’ll see.
Before the movie, we went out for K-BBQ. The prime ribeye was melt-in-your mouth perfection and the 48-hour marinated 갈비 (galbi) was worth the hype. There was so much food that we ordered, it took us nearly 90 minutes to finish our meal between talking in between bites and shoveling food into our mouths. The feedbag was definitely on.
When we went, the showing was sold out. It made me ecstatic that a Korean animation could dominate the music and film industry. The songs have people of all ages in a chokehold.
The movie was so much fun because the whole audience was having a great time. Everyone sang along to the songs like it was a live concert. Even the group of teen boys sitting next to us were singing like they were on American Idol and the little kids behind us were dancing like their lives depended on it.
I also got two bracelet freebies. And then there was my preordered crochet Sussie that I got from Etsy. Sussie is a three-eyed magpie and is a bit sassy, but I love it.
After watching the movie, we went to get boba… my drink was a ube taro smoothie with no boba or jelly and 0% sweetness. I love the nutty creaminess of ube and taro without the sugar overload.
