LINK: facial hair to view the post optimally
Currently watching: Pretty Woman (goodbye scene)
I noticed that a couple of my Chinese female friends have very long chin hairs. I don’t know if it’s because they have PCOS, going through menopause, have Cushing’s syndrome, or something else entirely… but what stood out to me was that they let it grow out naturally. If it were me, I’d probably get it lasered off, threaded, or plucked without hesitation. Koreans, aren’t overly superstitious about body hair. From what my Chinese friends have told me, they often consider moles and any hair growing on them to be a sign of good luck.
Facial hair on men is a whole other convo. I’ve only dated one guy with facial hair and that was Zaddy. My brother, during the pandemic, decided to grow one… I think during that time, a lot of men were doing it. I didn’t even know that he could grow a beard until he sent me a picture. I immediately texted him back asking if he was planning to live in the wilderness like Grizzly Adams or if he was going for the Unabomber look cause the hair on his head was also growing long. I told him that he looked ridic and unkempt. His beard was not trimmed and it just looked wild.
I’m just not a beard or mustache person. Even as a kid, I thought it looked strange, not a lot of Koreans rock facial hair. My uncle came to Minnesota from California once and he had a mustache. I couldn’t stop laughing because he looked so weird and creepy. He looked like my dad’s twin but with that peculiar looking stache.
I remember in microbiology lab, we had classmates with facial hair swabbed and the findings were absolutely disgusting. Since beards are a warm and moist host for microbial growth, it shouldn’t have surprised me but it did. The findings included = E. coli (what’s found in fecal matter… yes, doo doo), S aureus (yep, staphylococcus aureus), food particles, oils, fungal infections, and what not.
Are you a fan of facial hair? I know lots of different countries/cultures/people grow beards as a sign of religious obligation, adherence to traditions, rebelling against societal norms, or flexing their masculinity.
