I make a bunch of freebies whenever I go to K-pop concerts. It’s kind of a tradition in the fandom world. Little gifts like photo cards, bracelets, stickers, keychains—things made with love that I can pass out to other fans. I never expect anything in return. I just like giving them out. It’s fun to see people’s faces light up when they get something.
Some of my friends are strictly “trade only” when it comes to freebies, which is cool, that’s their thing since they spent their time and money on them. But for me, IDGAF. Not everyone has the time, money, or resources to make stuff, and that’s fine. I do it because it’s fun, and I love seeing all the creativity out there. Everyone brings their own spin, their own energy.
I remember outside SOFI Stadium at the BLACKPINK concert, I overheard a girl complaining, “Where are all the freebies? Where’s the community?” And in that moment, I was too busy wrestling with my light stick, trying and failing to get it to sync with the app. Her comment reminded me that I still had a bunch of freebies left in my bag. I walked over and handed some to her and her friends. Their mood changed immediately, they were so happy, and I could tell it meant something.
Freebies from BLINKS (BLACKPINK fans). I didn’t get much BLACKPINK items but these are great for memory keeping and putting on my bag for their next concert or meetup.
Freebies from ARMY (BTS stans) at the Jin concert. I think I got more from ARMY because I have more friends who are into BTS than other groups and ARMY is seriously next level. I mean someone even made a lotería card with Jin’s face on it.
I was going to go to the ENHYPEN concert but then Five Star invited me to go to a Backstreet Boys concert with her and her friends… with the hotel room comped in Vegas. How could I refuse?
