At what point does reasonably raising your quality of life turn into lifestyle creep?
* Lifestyle creep: The gradual increase in spending as income increases, often resulting in former luxuries becoming perceived necessities. For example, thinking that traveling on a private jet is a necessity, and you can’t imagine going back to flying on a commercial plane. You might even feel like you are poor because you have to upkeep this private jet.

It’s not cars, that’s for sure. When I first got my permit, I drove an old Ford. Then I moved on to a series of Honda Civics, and transitioned to Toyota Prii (plural for Prius). It’s pragmatic. I don’t use premium gas. With the way gas prices and car costs have shot up, even driving a Prius doesn’t seem like a flex. Definitely not lifestyle creep.
My weak spot would probably be travel—specifically fancy hotels, concerts, and Michelin-starred meals. I love a good experience. But I justify a lot of it through using my credit card points. I use my credit card for things I’d be paying for anyway like: groceries, gas, property taxes, car and home insurance, and etc. The travel rewards cover most of the flights and sometimes even hotel stays. So technically, I’m not spending more (except for the concerts), I’m just leveraging what I already have. That’s what I tell myself, anyway.
