fix it

Currently listening to: Messy – ROSÉ

So, baby, let’s get messy, let’s get all the way undone
Come over, undress me just like I’ve never been touched
Baby, I’m obsessed with you and there’s no replica
Maybe if it’s messy, if it’s messy, if it’s messy
Then you know it’s really love

Outside of an academic setting, should spelling & grammar be corrected?

Prompt snagged from: TCMC

Honestly, yes. My ex used to call me out on my grammar all the time—not so much my spelling, but definitely my grammar. He’d occasionally proofread over my blog posts, and I could always tell from the look on his face if they needed editing. No words needed—just that you missed a comma again look or this needed an em dash (option+shift+hyphen on Mac not sure about Windows) not a regular hyphen.

While I’m not the grammar police in casual conversations or texts (my typos are notorious), I do think strong grammar and spelling still matter, especially in professional environments. At work, clear and polished communication is a reflection of your attention to detail and credibility.

Since English is not my first language, it’s okay for me not to correct grammar when someone mistaken because my English, too, needs proofreading.🤩🤭

At least for me, they understand what I mean. But yes, on academic and on professional matters, it needs to be corrected, I agree.

Grammer is important when you are being graded on it. All other times, it is important but not as much.

Yeah my casual writing is terrible 😆 but for work and school I’m a lot better

Neither my spelling nor my grammar have ever been stellar- and I see a lot of what even I know we were taught falling at the wayside as a result of texting and email. It doesn’t offend me in the least- because if they got rid of spell checkers I would be lost so who am I to say.

My texting is notorious, I don’t even edit my misspellings anymore 😆. Your writing though is chefs kiss 🤌🏻

People who lose their sht over em- vs. en-dash are fascists. It’s a fcking dash! A short horizontal line. Don’t get shirty with me over the length!

” At work, clear and polished communication is a reflection of your attention to detail and credibility. ” This. I don’t understand the need people have to have to abbreviate everything. Is it an ancillary effect of texting?

    1. justrojie Avatar

At work we have acronyms and abbreviations for just about everything

        Same here. 😠

On Windows, two hyphens with no spaces will make an em dash. It’s my favorite letter of dash.

      Oooh thank you, Joe!

I agree with you, Rojie. I try my best with my books, of course, and I try to have my blog posts pretty clean. I am more relaxed with text, although I don’t do the shortcuts like B4, cuz, etc. I kind of love grammar, so I try to use it as best I can.

You know those punctuation jokes and memes, they make a difference 😅.

I dislike the short cut texting language 😁
