What do you enjoy doing most in your leisure time?

This is another similar prompt answered: fun times

This is a prompt plucked from TCMC

What has become way too expensive?

What say you, fellow Canadian friends?
  • groceries – especially eggs (about $9 for a dozen eggs), meats, seafood, frozen vegetables, and don’t get me started on the milk situation.  I hate shrinkflation too.  How are you going to charge extra and give less?
  • going out to eat – I don’t go to McDonald’s but I heard it’s astronomically stupid priced.
  • movie tickets
  • streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Paramount, etc.) – streamflation is ridic.
  • concerts
  • parking
  • sporting events
  • child care – I don’t have children but my friends do and it’s absolutely out of control.
  • healthcare – Luigi.  I don’t condone murder.  Enough said.
  • college/uni tuition – Jesus, Joseph, and Mary.  I have to nearly sell a kidney at this point.  Luckily, work helped pay for a majority of my tuition.
  • flights
  • hotels and Airbnb
  • automobiles
  • gas
  • car maintenance
  • housing
  • utilities – how is waste management going to charge me a convenience fee (CF) of $1.99 each month for having my statement auto-billed? And why’s my energy bills  higher now in comparison to five years ago and I’m basically using the same amount?
  • HOA – this jumped to $50 in the past year and a half.
  • home insurance
  • car insurance
  • property tax
  • federal and state taxes
  • living, basically.

Living is essentially out pricing itself. I am thankful I am ‘on the back forty’ for this one, as I am really not sure I wanna be around to find where all this madness leads.

It’s going to be total mayhem when the tariffs go into play and everything becomes even more expensive.

Our local Alaska barge tariffs already went up from $.50 a pallet to $7.00 not because of Trump, but because our barge system is greatly in need of work, and that is how everything from the lower 48 gets here. So we are especially not looking forward to further tariffs

Holy moly!! How do people even afford anything?

          1. Violet Lentz Avatar

It is what it is. No one ever said life in Alaska was gonna be easy. Most of us choose to be here, and the Natives? They hunt fish and gather to supplement their food supplies.

True, in California it is more expensive for everything, but Arizona is catching up to California, but thank God not on the level of California yet. Hopefully we have some years yet to go.

    1. justrojie Avatar

Arizona when I went was still affordable or I forgot how California is ridiculously expensive 😭

      1. Jesse Pallante Avatar

        Yes it is for everything.

Ughh Rojie, like it’s nothing against America in general but has he lost his mind?? We have FREE healthcare, of course we pay in taxes but that’s just the way it is and has been for decades ‘n decades. And no, we don’t want to join the USA, we are more than happy to be Canadians! The idea is preposterous!

    1. justrojie Avatar

😂 I wouldn’t either if I was a Canadian! Americans can’t even afford to live here so idk what he’s talking about.

Every time I see that orange face of a man like Trump I wish I could… you don’t want to know 😡. As a Canadian I say no no no we do not want to join the US! What a ridiculous, stupid idea! Also I completely agree with all the things you listed. Why is everything so fucking expensive, it isn’t fair as most of this these are everyday needs!

    1. justrojie Avatar

Even feminine hygiene products are expensive. Ugh. He is preposterous

That is outrageous!!! Here in Canada we no longer have taxes on menstrual products. Having to pay extra for something that is just part of being a woman feels like a punishment.

I wonder if Canada is willing to adopt parts of the U.S. 😂

Doubtful unless there’s enough people there willing to give up their guns.

“living, basically” – that about sums it up!

      Exactly!

Everything is going up except the salary. I wonder how the underprivileged are surviving when we are struggling. Our car fuel is at 3 digits per litre and no one is making noise 🤷‍♀️. Our politicians are getting subsidized rates and plenty of incentives for not working. We the middle class are screwed.

    1. justrojie Avatar

They find a way to silence the people…

One of the disadvantage here is, we have too many political parties who don’t wish to unite. Everyone wants to lead.

        1. justrojie Avatar

          How many parties? 😳

          1. ibarynt Avatar

Oh my gosh, more than 5 atleast. There are so many regional parties. It is such a mess.

inflation and all scares me so much that makes me postpone the ayurvedic treatment I am thinking of – also, over here GST the taxes go above and beyond. Like 18% tax. It is unbelievable

    1. justrojie Avatar

Omgah do they tax you for state and federal?

      1. April Avatar

Yes. SGST is states and CGST is central 😂

It’s definitely rough here in California so I’m not looking forward to even more expenses! I actually was just thinking about this last week as we were looking for a decently-priced carpet cleaner. It seems like prices have gone up so much since the last time we had it done a year ago! Luckily, we found a good one, but we’ve already been experiencing high costs, so I’m not looking forward to things increasing even more!

    1. justrojie Avatar

😩 me neither!! I feel like the stores are nickel and diming folks
