I don’t get the hype. Every time I drive around a Dutch Bros, there’s always a long line at the drive thru. I’ve been meaning to go since they opened last year but every time I saw the line, I would get discouraged and tell myself, “next time”.
I got a $10 gift card from the VP of my consulting gig and when I downloaded the app, it came with a free medium drink. Yesterday, I looked at the app and it was going to expire tomorrow so I thought today would be the day to try it out.
Sure enough, as soon as I got there, the line was wrapped around the building with high schoolers hanging around sipping on their drinks. We got out of the car and ordered the drink at the window. I would have ordered the beverages on the app but I had questions about the drinks.
All the drinks sounded sweet and sugary, which wasn’t my vibe. Instead I opted for a basic cold brew with cream and whipped cream. My friend ordered a rebel energy drink with sugar free flavors. He said it tasted wonderful and artificial at the same time.
My drink was fine except I think I overdid it with the cream. When I got home, I brewed a cup of coffee and mixed in a quarter of the cold brew. It tasted much better after I did that.
I effectively used my gift card for both drinks and a tip for the barista, leaving me with 55 cents remaining. I don’t know if I’d go back but if I’m in a bind, it may be a consideration.
