separation of mind and body

Currently watching: Ronnie Chieng – Love to Hate it (Netflix)

I’ve been experiencing this more and more when I drive, especially when I’m going to work or going home.   I’ll even have Google Maps on and I still manage to get lost.  I have my Apple watch on which vibrates whenever I’m supposed to turn and yet I still manage to get lost.

It’s mostly because I don’t pay attention.  I’m either daydreaming, took a turn too early, or extremely fatigued (working long hours and having anemia).  I won’t lie but there have been times when I’ve closed my eyes a little too long while driving.  Luckily, nothing happened but still, it’s jarring when I open my eyes and realize that I am indeed driving.  Sleep driving, that is…

Some things that I do to help mitigate falling asleep behind the wheel are: putting on the air conditioner full blast, chew gum, eat candy, drink coffee before going on the road, sing loudly to gangster rap (prefer Tupac), or play EDM.  What are some things that you do to stay alert?

Blast punk rock, or classic 90’s dance hits, drink caffeine, Although I do tend to have a lot of energy, I too get tired too.

I turn on the radio. When they play Tupac I am all in. Then it is getting cool. I also drink coffee to stay alert and eat chips and also drink water, which is pretty good.

These are good tactics too!! Thank you for sharing, might have to bring some snacks for the drive 😂

        Yes definitely snacks help.

Yeah!! I gotta come up with healthier snacks 😂 cause I could eat a bag of gummies like it was nothing

Gummies are good, me too 😁. As long as you are chewing on something you should be able to stay alert. I think 🤔. Gummies may work, just saying they are chewy 😂.

Sometimes I’ll be listening to an audiobook and something exciting is happening in the story and then I drive right past my the corner I wanted to turn.

I am the Queen of Turnaround. I miss more turns than anyone on the planet. And yep! It’s usually because I’m daydreaming – my mind never stops. And fatigue! I’ve fallen asleep at stoplights.

Then there is the fighting to keep my eyes open on long drives. I used to eat! You don’t usually fall asleep if you’re eating. I would plan strategic stops to get burgers, fries, milkshakes – whatever. But, of course, that never helped the waistline. It’s a struggle. Today I just blast music and change the channel often. I never tried gangster rap. Thanks for that. 🙂

When I drove 5 ton, I would listen to comedy radio, eat apples, and stay super alert.

Eating does seem to help !

It sounds like you have some great ways to stay alert, even with long hours and fatigue. For me, I usually sing to Alternative or Worship Music. Sometimes I’ll lift my hands and praise, and if I’m in the mood for alternative or indie music, I’ll just sing out loud. If I’m with my wife, I’ll start dancing just to embarrass her, and we end up laughing. I find that moving or changing things up like that helps me stay focused on the road.
But in all seriousness, you really need to be more careful while driving. It’s important to stay focused and stay safe. Please, take care.

Yeah I’m trying to sleep earlier…and I take a nap during my breaks (if I get one) at work. Drinking Vietnamese coffee protein too…it makes me wanna go to the bathroom so it’s hard to fall asleep to that when your bladder is full. That’s so cute about you trying to embarrass the wife 😂
