progress, not perfection…

Currently listening to: Mr. Brightside – The Killers

I never thought I’d say it but these days, I’ve been looking forward to going to the gym.

When I was dating Big Bang, I was in prime shape.  An hour of yoga, hour of pilates, and hour of dance every fucking day. My diet was primarily vegan and low carb (basically plant based but nothing processed) except a week before my monthly disease, then I would indulge in K-BBQ.

But now I’ve got two jobs and a consulting gig so I have less time but I’ve been going to the gym as much as I can.  I think being the leader in our work fitness group helps, our daily goal is a minimum of 10,000 steps.   I don’t want to let anyone down.  I also challenge and share my workout progress with several friends so we can hold each other accountable.

It wasn’t until September 10th, that I was taking things seriously.  It’s taking that first step that’s the hardest and once I get going, I start building momentum and then I’m unstoppable.  On the 14th and 15th I felt like I deserved a break especially since it was that time of the month.  Then on the 22nd, I slept for most of the day because the week was hellacious.  On the 27th, I planned on going to the gym with Buddy H but we ate too much omakase and we were in no shape to exercise.

Since working out, I’ve been sleeping earlier and more soundly.  There’s a pep in my step at work and I’m not as mentally drained from all the chaos that is going on around me.  My diet has improved, I’m not eating as much fried foods, less dairy products (IKR?), and I haven’t had fast food in months.  My only vice these days are sushi and coffee.

The gym that I go to has beautiful people there getting their fitness on.  So many men who look like k-pop idols and are shredded like a MF.  There was another guy who looked like he could be Cristiano Ronaldo’s brother.  Total heart eyes emoji.  This is a huge motivator for me.  I want to look my best.

There are times when I’m on a machine, a rando dude will get on the machine next to me and start staring at me or make obnoxious noises.  I don’t know if he’s trying to get my attention or if he wants me to move to another machine even though I was there first.  I do my best to ignore him and stay the course…turning up the volume on my headphones and looking straight ahead.

They say it takes three months to form a new habit but I think I’m already there.
