What traditions have you not kept that your parents had?

My parents had an arranged marriage. They were brought together through careful orchestration from both families based on social status, religious beliefs, and values. This was to strengthen their economic stability and maintain social order while honoring their sense of duty and commitment to the families.

Despite not having a romantic courtship, they in time developed an understanding, stable, and eventually cared deeply for one another over the years. It definitely wasn’t giving K-drama vibes.

When I asked my mom, “What about love?” She responded that their kind of love was more about companionship, being support and lean on one another, and able to navigate difficult times together (immigrating to a new country). Their love grew over years and evolved over time.

I closed my eyes and thought to myself, “Fuck. That.”

Doesn’t Love come in many forms? Each of us has a different perception… can cause problems after the flush of initial attraction starts to fade…following several break ups, and hearing your parents story, I gotta wonder if an arranged marriage that both partners work at together, isn’t a bad idea! Either way, a successful relationship takes time and effort from both partners…

My parents too had an arranged marriage, in fact it still happens here in India. My mom is super loyal to my dad even 5 years after his death. I admire that quality. He too was fiercely loyal and never wavered from responsibility.

Would you ever consider an arranged marriage for yourself? I’m curious
