learned

Describe something you learned in high school.

I learned a few things:

  • Spanish
  • first love and heartbreak
  • that life isn’t fair
  • my breaking point – the stress of being a perfectionist was my downfall
  • that I had an eating disorder
  • there will always be someone who does things better and those who are smarter than me
  • critical thinking and literature interpretation
  • calculus and trigonometry
  • that I had a flair for writing
  • time management because I had six classes + working part-time
  • friends come and go
  • and of course, the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell

Number three, while tragic, is good to learn earlier rather than later. I’ve seen kids who have never experienced failure before, sometimes bubble wrapped growing up. Then they step out into the world and have a difficult time adapting. Best to develop a little bit of grit early on.

agreed, cause how else do you develop coping skills if you haven’t been through it
