But be careful what you wish for
‘Cause you just might get it
You just might get it

Do you have any friends from childhood still in your life?

Prompt created by yours truly.

I’d love to read your responses.

I moved around so much growing up that by the time I got to uni, a lesson I was taught was to not hold onto friendships too tight. I’d get close to someone and just as soon as we were vibin’, one of us would move.

Even the friendships that I had in school… I’m not sure how many of them were real and how many of them were transactional. We studied together, ate together, commiserated together, survived the same labs and exams. I found it comforting to have that bond with my fellow classmates.

But after uni, most of us scattered throughout the country. The updates about our lives and texts going back and forth slowly dissipated.

As for my Korean church friends, I thought for sure we were going to be friends forever. But once I stopped going to church, some of them condemned me for it while others drifted from the church themselves and we lost touch with one another.

And then there’s Maggie, who has friends from kindergarten. People who have gone through all the teenage angst, trials and tribulations, along with the lifetime milestones together and still stuck around. It amazes me because it’s a foreign concept for me. Those types of friendships sound so stable and nurturing.

That’s something I kinda wish I had… knowing that someone has known me long enough to remember who I was before I became who I am now.

I still communicate with some from babies together, 1, and many I’ve known from the age of 4. I get you in this post, you moved around a lot too hey?

Like you I have moved a lot. Not only in my youth- but my whole life. I think this is one of the reasons I very rarely bond with anyone- kind of like ‘why bother- one of us is sure to leave…’

another reason why i have maladaptive attachment issues lol

One close childhood friend from the neighborhood who I went from K-12 with died at 39 of cancer 😔. The other who I was friends with from K-5 moved away but later in life married into my Dad’s side of the family (who I am not in touch with). A dude I was friends with from 6-12 (has been in and out of my life, but he is far right religious these days)

I have a friend in high school that we rarely met, but I can feel that we care for each other. I don’t need to explain to her because she understands me.

But many of my friends back in the days are just seasonal.

It hurts to lose a friend that you thought was for lasting one. Hugs, Rojie.

Yes, I hope and pray, Rojie that He blessed our friendship. My pleasure!

I do still have a friend from school. We don’t talk much but we still keep in touch.

does it consist of sending one another memes back and forth? cause that’s what i feel like my friends are doing lol

      1. ibarynt Avatar

Not as regular sending memes but we always wish each other good morning 😁

I deal with the friendships fading away kinda very emotionally lol. Like, I am trying to drag it out…but no one wants to try from their part…

But when the bridge blows it blows for me…with silence, or whatever…

I also think on the same lines about how wonderful it would be to have a friend who have known me since I was a kiddo…just have a few…and those too are miles apart now…

night changes! I am sure when I am over 80 I gotta schedule grief and moments to cry about lost friendships…and all…I am gonna miss them all then too very badly

Aww I think that hurts when they stop trying
