Someday we’ll know
Why Sampson loved Delilah
One day I’ll go
Dancing on the moon
Someday you’ll know
That I was the one for you
I bought a ticket to the end of the rainbow
I watched the stars crash into the sea
If I could ask God just one question
Why aren’t you here with me we’ll know
If love can move a mountain
Someday we’ll know
Why the sky is blue
Someday we’ll know
Why I wasn’t meant for you

What’s your favorite quote?

She is one of the most prolific artists in the world (at least to me). She manages to paint experiences that are difficult to explain, uncomfortable to look at, and deeply personal. She lived with physical pain, complicated love, and profound disappoint, as well as a fierce desire to remain as herself in a world that has tried again and again to define her. I feel like I can relate to that to some degree.

This piece is one of my favorite. It was painted after her separation from Diego Rivera. It depicts two versions of Frida sitting next to one another, hands clasped and their hearts exposed. One wears a traditional Tehuana dress, of her Mexican lineage and her relationship with Diego. Her heart is completely whole and there is small portrait of Diego, as a child is in one of Frida’s hand, and it is the source of the her blood. The vein travels through her heart and over to the other version of herself.
While the other wears a white, European looking dress stained with blood, this is how she saw herself, rejected, after the divorce. Not only is the heart exposed, it is sliced open. This version of Frida is trying to cut off the flow of memories of Diego, but it doesn’t seem to be working.
The turbulent sky mirrors the turmoil from within…
Le sigh…
