Me: Whatchu mean?
Diné coworker: Because Christopher Columbus made a mistake in his geography, my people were called Indians even though we are not people of the Indies or India.
Me: Pinche (fucking) Columbus.
Diné coworker: it really irks me when people call me an Indian. I prefer being called Diné over Navajo because of colonialism, ya know?
Me: Yeah… I feel you. I’ll call you whatever you feel comfortable having me call you.
