welcome to the fam

Do you have a work wife/husband? If so, describe them. If you’re retired, do you still keep in touch with your former colleagues?

Prompt created by yours truly.

I’d love to read your responses.

I have three work wives and two work husbands. I mean we spend over 40 hours a week together, I’m with them more than anyone else so it seems only natural to have work spouses. It’s all strictly platonic too. Being around them, definitely makes work more bearable and sometimes, it’s even fun. The emotional support and ability to collaborate with others makes for a better working environment, that’s for damn sure.

The work wives are the ones who come to inspect me in the mornings and scold me for not going to bed sooner. They know because I look tired. They’re also the ones who bring me homemade foods or hook me up with snacks. We can communicate with one another without saying anything. One raised eyebrow or side eye glance and we already know what’s going on without saying a word. They’re also the ones who complain about their husbands to me, they don’t want advice, they only want to vent.

My work husband are the ones who supports me without judgment. He also asks me about advice on his children or what present he ought to get his wife for her birthday. Don’t worry, his wife knows all about me. He’s the one who will video record me getting an award and then show his wife… but not send me the footage. The other knows how I take my coffee and will buy me a cup on his way into work. He’ll joke about me being a workaholic and our talks often end up turning into a therapy session. He’s also the one who makes sure that I’m included in everything, like all the work parties and events.

    Welcome to the Fam 💛
Some coworkers become more than colleagues—they become family. I’m grateful for the people who have supported me, shared laughter, encouraged me during difficult times, and made every workday a little brighter.
Work isn’t only about tasks and deadlines; it’s also about the meaningful connections we build along the way. The friendships we create at work often become some of life’s greatest blessings.

Therapy session. Very funny!🤭 I like the telepathic vibes of your work wives. I’m new to this term.

I teach in a small high school with a small staff, but I happen to be one of two teachers who actually shares a room with another teacher.

One of our fellow staff members referred to the two of us as “ work spouses“ so I got a good laugh out of that

Haha thats cool! Do you share a classroom or just an office?

      1. rebuilding rob Avatar

Just a classroom. It’s kind a of unique setup. The room is huge. I’m sure at one point it was two separate classrooms, or even 2 classrooms and a shared storage space.

It’s nice though because we’ll cover each other’s classes when one of us needs to go to the bathroom 😂

Oh that’s cool though! You get to share the same experiences too with the students

People claim having a work wife or husband is weird.

    That’s nonsense.

What’s truly uncomfortable are the work ex-wives and ex-husbands. It makes the meetings awkward for the work children.

(And yes, God damn it, work children exist. And have yet to be potty trained!)

When I was a director I had work children. They were awful!!!

In all seriousness, the closest person I had to a work wife turned out to be crazy.

I was just too nice and supportive to see it at the time, even though everyone else did.

She didn’t last long at my company.

When she called me from her third job, complaining that her latest boss was annoyed that she was focused on “interesting” stuff rather than assigned tasks they paid her to do?

That’s when the penny dropped for me.

You’re way too nice. I woulda blocked after she left 🤣
