New Kids on the Block aka NKOTB, have been the group I’ve seen live the most. It started way back when my older cousins would force me to listen to Jordan Knight and learn all his choreography. I’d line up my plushies in the living room and we’d put on a full-on concert for them. I’m pretty sure we looked ridic but at the time, I was happy that they were spending time with me and teaching me how to dance.
Growing up, we didn’t have cable television or any cool channels, just the basic local stations. While other kids were watching music videos and memorizing dance moves from the latest pop stars, I was in my own deprived world, relying purely on sound. Music became my closest companion; all I had were the melodies that I tried to replicate on the piano, the lyrics, and my imagination.
I didn’t pay much attention to them again until Lady Gaga opened for them, along with Natasha Bedingfield. Then they did a song with Ne-Yo. Right before the pandemic, some of my friends (the die-heard NKOTB fans aka blockheads) started inviting me to go with them to the concerts and I had so much fun that I hadn’t stopped since then.
Their newer stuff, specially from six years ago, slaps. “Boys In the Band” is one of my favs, specially since they mentioned BTS in this song and Lance Bass (from *NSYNC) is in it. The music video was fun to watch, they were basically make fun of themselves and celebrating the boy-band legacy. And can we talk about how gorg Debbie Gibson looks? Blows my mind that she’s 55 years old. #goals
Jordan Knight is my bias if you haven’t noticed. He’s got the same initials as Jung Kook from BTS. He’s just… 100% wow. God definitely favored him when he was made. He’s for sure a zaddy, classic heartthrob looks.
