for once…

LINK: for once…

There’s a new set of dietary guidelines for Americans and honestly, I’m not mad about it.

For once, I find myself agreeing with RFK Jr. and his parasitic worm.

They have basically flipped the food pyramid upside down. Are we in the upside down world? It sure feels like it.

There is more of an emphasis on whole foods. Fruits, vegetable take center stage. Protein is the main character. I prefer lean meats like white meat chicken, turkey, and seafood. I definitely agree with getting rid of processed foods with refined carbs, added sugars, excessive amounts of sodium, unhealthy fats, and additives. That shit will increase inflammation in the body and cause long-term health problems.

I love dairy, but sometimes I opt for low-fat yogurt and cottage cheese to balance things out. I’m trying to eat less saturated.

What do you think?

He has a point. No ultra processed foods. It is a good thing.

    1. justrojie Avatar

yes! i feel like you’re basically eating that diet any way with your salads

  2. Jesse Pallante Avatar

    Yes you are right 👍.

I eat whatever we have on the table, but thankfully, I eat fresh fruits and vegetables most often. Our food intake is getting upside down, yes, I think.

    1. justrojie Avatar

before they would encourage to eat more starches like bread, pasta, noodles, rice and less meats but now it’s def upside down

      1. Hazel Avatar

It’s up to us. It’s our choice

I think deemphasizing fiber is going to come back and bite us in the butt.

    1. justrojie Avatar

That is true , there is fiber in fruits and veggies too

      1. Violet Lentz Avatar

But it’s not the same kind as whole grains.

        1. justrojie Avatar

          Yeah that’s true

Canada should follow suit although, we’ve been pretty healthy that way, but it’s the McDs, the fast foods, the ramen (even though it’s yummy!!!) you know??? Oh, and by the way for a nasty surprise with the McD’s stuff, see this https://www.tiktok.com/@duhhmarkis/video/7591537808561458463?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc. I don’t even touch that shit no more!!!

    1. justrojie Avatar

Yeah I don’t even do fast food often cause of alll the garbage

    2. M. Avatar

I haven’t touched that shit since that film Fast Food Nation came out…20 yrs MCDs free

      1. justrojie Avatar

That’s awesome!! I’ve never seen that film!

        1. M. Avatar

Its an eye opener..honestly the only fast food I occassionally ate at over the years was Arbys but they now SUCK too

          1. justrojie Avatar

Omg Arby’s!!! I forgot they even existed!

          2. M. Avatar

I had work experience there in the early 90’s 😆

          3. justrojie Avatar

I do remember their curly fries being hella good

  8. M. Avatar

They stressed that the public should eat more red meat in a press conference..beef is by far the least financially attainable meat for the working class/poor (i rarely eat it to begin with) the problem is more so the proliferation of ultra processed food over the last 40 years, not to mention hormone injected meats..plus they always stress to buy organic. I would if that was my only choice but organic produce is also more $$$ ya know.

    1. justrojie Avatar

They also cater to the big corps lobbying. But you’re right about hormones and processed foods.

  9. Michael Williams Avatar

lol RFK Jr is such a mad lad 🙂 Mike

    1. justrojie Avatar

😆 trust me I think he’s nuttier than my patients fruitcake

  10. usfman Avatar

Maybe they should tell the president to follow these guidelines as a better example for our citizens.

    1. justrojie Avatar

He’s gonna gorge himself with fast food and sodas.

I’m with you, too on the food pyramid. My son in middle school went to the CA state science fair with a project called “You are what you eat.” He was totally against the food pyramid then, which was which would have been around 2010.

    1. E.A. Wickham Avatar

      Sorry for the typos!

    2. justrojie Avatar

That’s for sure, you are what you eat!

      1. E.A. Wickham Avatar

        So true!

  12. ianmdudley Avatar

I’ve been trying to eat healthier for a long time. Processed foods make it hard, and THEY. ARE. EVERYWHERE!

I’d also love to see artificial colors phased out. The only drinks that don’t use them at all taste awful because they’re fringe, er, excuse me, indie bottling company beverages made of hemp-adjacent plant derivatives.

Make America great again by giving us the unhealthy sodas we love but without the unnecessary and unhealthy ingredients. Give us the Cokes, Pepsis, and Crush colas they sell in Europe!

    1. justrojie Avatar

processed foods, gmo, hormones, all of that crap has got to go. try the mexican cokes in the bottles lol. i think they still use regular sugar?

      1. ianmdudley Avatar

They do use real sugar. But I’ve been cutting back on that, too. :/

        1. justrojie Avatar

          same… ugh

          1. ianmdudley Avatar

I’m trying to balance my need for sweetness from artificial sweeteners with my risk of cancer.

          2. justrojie Avatar

i try not to use any sweeteners but then again, i’m more into savory than sweet

          3. ianmdudley Avatar

My problem, with coffee at least, is I love the smell but hate the bitter taste. So if I’m going to sweeten it, it’s gonna be via sugar substitute and NOT passing through some mammal’s digestive system.

            Cancer be damned!

          4. justrojie Avatar

lol yeah I add a splash of creamer to offset the bitterness

          5. ianmdudley Avatar

I add … considerably more than a splash of creamer to mine.

          6. justrojie Avatar

            lol

  13. vic5566 Avatar

Are there also guidelines regarding calorie intake from liquids? Considering the rise in consumption of sweetened beverages (particularly coffee and energy drinks)

    1. justrojie Avatar

there’s nothing exactly about it other than reduce the intake of those types of drinks

      1. vic5566 Avatar

here in Singapore (and some parts of Europe, I think), there’s a nutri-grade system for beverages (A being low sugar and D being unhealthy af). When introduced, it forced alot of drink companies to cut down sugar levels in their products, so they cld have a better “grade” to display on their labels/menu…

        1. justrojie Avatar

They should have that here too

  14. Daedalus Lex Avatar

Me too. For once I don’t disagree with him completely. My favorite worm joke that that the worm could eat his whole brain and half of Trump’s and still starve to death 🙂

    1. justrojie Avatar

      LOLOL omggggg now that’s funny!!

  15. Clay Tucker Avatar

i need to eat more vegetables

    1. justrojie Avatar

      me too!!

  16. ibarynt Avatar

What are food guidelines? 🤣 they’d never work here.

    1. justrojie Avatar

lol they are recommendations to stay healthy.

      1. ibarynt Avatar

I can only wish our government cared for the people to even think of guidelines, let alone recommend. Food itself is expensive, healthy food? Not realistic for the common man.

        1. justrojie Avatar

food is very expensive now, anything organic is double the price

          1. ibarynt Avatar

Organic is a luxury. It’s time to grow our own food, but where’s the space.

          2. justrojie Avatar

exactly… if i win the lotto, i want a farm

          3. ibarynt Avatar

Exactly, the rich here are all going the farm route.

  17. Info-Man Avatar

At this point, I don’t actually know what I need to eat 🥱 I am always hungry.

    1. justrojie Avatar

      me too lol
