What is something you learned about yourself this year?

I’ve learned a lot about myself over the past year. Writing has helped me slow down, reflect, and connect the dots between what I feel and why I feel it. The feedback that I’ve gotten from y’all have made me pause and really think. It’s made me more self-aware, more patient, and a little bit gentler with myself. I’d like to thank everyone for reading my posts, liking my post, and leaving comments, I do take it to heart.
I’ve learned to deal with my mom better these days. She loves to cook for me. That’s her love language. Her food is incredible, but it’s a no-win situation for me. If I don’t eat her food, she gets mad; if I do eat, she tells me I’m getting fat. I can’t win, but I can reframe my thoughts and appreciate how the food slaps and that I’m saving money by eating at home.
I’ve also learned that my identity isn’t defined by external things—not my job title(s), not my achievements, not the roles I play for other people. For so long, I tied my worth to being productive, to being needed, to checking every box. But I realize that my sense of self comes from within like my values, my potential, and how I carry myself.
As cheesy as it sounds, life really is about the journey—the messy, beautiful, unpredictable parts that make me who I am. That’s why I strive to keep evolving, pushing myself past comfort zones, trying to break whatever invisible ceilings that have been placed before me. I’m still a work in process (WIP), but at least I’m learning to appreciate and enjoy the process a little bit more and not be so hyper-focused on the outcome.
